Re: SPAM-LOW: [QueenCreekHams] Range????
Just keeping it simple. Altitude, obstructions, and power for line-of-sight comms. The table demonstrates the disinformation provided by the FRS, GMRS, and other "walkie" manufacturers. Joe, N2QOJ On Mon, Oct 21, 2024, 4:46 PM Doug Pelley WB7TUJ via <wb7tuj=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: SPAM-LOW: [QueenCreekHams] Range????
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýNEVER pay any attention to milage figures when it comes to radios and antennas. They are created by non-technical marketing folks and made for lay people who know nothing about RF. ? 1. VHF & UHF propagation is virtually line of sight, somewhat limited by transmitted effective radiated power (transmitter power output + antenna gain). ? 2. The next limitation is receiver sensitivity / selectivity, intermod rejection, image rejection, cleanliness of the IF, etc, etc, etc. ? 3. Combine 1 & 2 and then add the main limitation, which is noise floor at the receiver antenna site. Noise created by nature (QRN) and noise created by man (QRM). QRN is static discharge and other atmospheric noises. QRM is from man made electrical and electronic devices, other near-by radio transmitters, etc, etc, etc. ? ? Doug WB7TUJ Outlook HS52 ? Latest list of Test Sessions for October, November, and December
Here's the latest list of Test Sessions for October, November, and December in our regional area. Here is the Technician Class study guide from KB6NU. It is great for self-study and available from the Queen Creek Amateur Radio Club website: Another reminder: If you are upgrading, the FCC fee of $35 DOES NOT apply to upgrading your license class. Something new: Free study materials for General Class and Amateur Extra Class are also available at the Queen Creek Amateur Radio Club website: A study guide for the new Amateur Extra Question Pool beginning July 1st has been added to our free materials. Please note that Superstition Amateur Radio Club has begun its own regular VE Sessions and is a great addition to the regional test session list. Regards, Joe - N2QOJ |

Next Radios @ Home event...
The last Radios @ Home event for the 2024 summer season is this coming Saturday, September 21st, from 10:00 to at least 12:00. We use a frequency of 146.460 with a PL tone of 77.0Hz and operate off-grid to test our abilities to stay radio-active even under less than optimum conditions. And it's just plain fun to talk station to station and antenna to antenna! So remember to join us on Saturday, September 21st at 10:00 hours on 146.460 and give a shout for "anyone participating in Radios @ Home". And remember, Radios Under Sun Shade is just around the corner (October 19).
?
Take care and stay safe and well! 73, "And may the propagation be ever in your favor!" John (-: KI7PPW ;-) |
