Print Tool Issues

Due to some permission issues I needed to reinstall QTR create new printer profiles. The permission issue have been resolved but I can’t get Print Tool to see the curve files. I suspect Print Tool is not looking at the printers I have created. Additionally, prior to this issue I was able to print to my P800 wirelessly (ip). The new profiles say usb only.?

Can anyone offer some ideas of where I need to go from here to resolve the issues??

Larry,

I had permissions issues I posted a while ago, email below in red, where Print-Tool was denied permission to access files. However, the denial was in the profiles themselves, the quad files. Any new quad file I installed I had to make SURE it had access, and anytime I pressed the Install command I had to make sure it didn’t happen again. Then it also cropped up with the printer itself, with a similar fix. That I did not fix because my lab manager found it and did the deed. She went into Preferences and Shared Permissions and changed it there. Again, this happened on the fly/automatically with no warning after some automatic security update. The thing that had me flummoxed was my original quad had permissions turned on and when I put it on the school computer, the quad file changed without my changing it. Hence checking each and every profile after installing each time you press an install button or transfer a quad to another computer. You can never underestimate Apple messing with your profiles ?

For the last several weeks I struggled at work because Print-Tool intermittently would show in the Print Center on a Mac “access denied” to the profile but it would still print a negative anyway. What happened is with the latest Apple security updates newer quad files were showing No Access (hence the intermittence as older profiles were OK).?I thought it was a heightened security thing at work only, not at home, but nope. Today I found out it was the same on my home laptop. It is not a School/admin thing.?To save yourself much heartache, click on your Quad files, select Get Info, and make sure your permissions are set to Read Only not No Access.?Furthermore, when I imported and installed profiles on the School’s two computers, even the read only quads?changed?to No Access. Best practice might therefore nowadays be:?whenever installing profiles on any computer at anytime always recheck permissions.

Hi,?
Make sure the permission is set right for the .curve that are in the folder where there is the "run install" file before checking in the folder where the .quad are actually installed.
To simplify, say that a ".curve" is the file in the "run install" folder and a ".quad" is the .curve after installation (where QTR goes looking for it), then if I remember correctly :?
(1) if you install a .curve with wrong permissions -> the .quad?resulting will have?wrong permissions.
(2) if you install a .curve with good permissions -> the .quad?resulting will have?good permissions.
The tricky part is :?
- if you install a .curve with?wrong?permissions -> the .quad?resulting will have the?wrong?permissions (1), then you change the permission of the?.quad?so everything is fine with QTR (3).
- BUT?the next time you "run install" for adding a new .quad, every single .curve is reinstalled (not just the new one), so the .curve with?wrong?permissions will become a .quad with?wrong permission again, even if you changed it before (3), because the .curve used for the install still have the wrong permissions.

I don't know if it's clear, I tried my best, but in my memory this is how it works.

Hope it helps !

Thanks Christina. I seem to have the permissions issue resolved and Print Tool does find the curve files now. My only issue now seems to be re-establishing wireless printing capability.

If your printer happened to be turned off and not on the network when you re-installed the QTR driver it probably defaulted to a direct/USB connection. Re-install your Epson driver as a Bonjour networked printer first, and then reinstall QTR.

Clay, thanks so much! That was the issue. ?I had to reinstall the printer driver, reinstall QTR and set everything up again, but it is working again!
