QSI Titan-U Version 9 suddenly got all CVs=255 - not responding to RESET 25
Need help. Problem: QSI Titan-U Version 9 w/ latest version of the "U50 Dual FDL16" Sound installed got all CVs set to value=255, and does not respond to RESET. The decoder info (QSI Misc Tab) shown by the JMRI DecoderPro is: Manufacturer Version No: 9 Minor Version: 2 Firmware Build: 11 Product Model: 1144 Sound Set Number: 1000 Hardware Profile: 7000 Firmware Build Date: 10/7/2013 Firmware Modified Date: 10/16/2013 Since its purchase, it was kept in its original packaging, unused. About 2-3 weeks ago, I've started working with it, configuring and testing various scenarios, before its installation. For testing, the decoder is attached to two TDS 8 Ohm Speakers, an HO Athearn Motor, and the Light Ports 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 attached to decoder 12V power, via one Warm White LED and a 1.0 KOhm resistor each. It worked fine for two weeks or more, in 3 DCC control scenarios: a) NCE PowerCab - Track Power from NCE Power Panel, b) JMRI DecodePro (w/ NCE USB PC Interface, via NCE Power Panel) c) Quantum CV Manager V3.1.0.7 (w/ QSI Programmer USB PC Interface) Today, after configuring and testing lights with the JMRI DecodePro, and NCE PowerCab, decided to switch to testing with the Quantum CV Manager. Switching consisted as usually in changing the Track Power from the NCE Power Panel to the QSI Programmer USB. This time, unlike before, after the switch of the Track Power Source, the decoder stopped responding to DCC commands. At a closer look: a) Decoder Current Consumption is 80mA - decoder seems warm at touch, but can't say if it's warmer than before, as I didn't check before, b) CV Reading works but the values returned are 255 for any CV, including CV1, CV7 and CV8. c) CV Writing does NOT work - the value returned from any CV does not change from 255. Because CV writing does not work, could not do a RESET by setting CV 49 = 128, CV 50 = 255, and CV 56 = 113. So, I tried a Hardware Reset, by following the procedure indicated in the Installation Manual: 1. Power OFF 2. Connect the decoder P2 pink wire P2-13 to the P2 white/black wire P2-14, 3. Power ON 4. Power OFF 5. Disconnect P2-13 and P2-14 Wires The expected RESET sound was not produced/heard in the speakers. Furthermore, it is clear that the RESET didn't succeed, as the behavior has not changed. Both the QSI CV Manager, and QSI Update Version 3, return errors at recognizing the decoder, as the index registers CV 49 and CV 50 cannot be changed. The fact that the decoder still returns CV values for any CV, gives me some hope, as the hardware seems to be OK. One element that need be mentioned, as it may have been part of, or the very cause to this is that after moving the Track Power plug from the NCE Power Panel to the QSI Programmer, and starting the Quantum CV Manager, I got an error message on the laptop about the unavailability of the communication port, and noticed that I forgot to plug in the Power Supply for the QSI Programmer. After plugging in the Power Supply, I pulled out the USB cable and inserted it again into the Laptop USB port, to make sure all is OK. As during this time the decoder was connected to the Track, I suspect that this sequence of actions has generated signals to the Track, that caused the flushing of the decoder CV memory to all binary 1s and perhaps further wiping out parts, or all of the decoder's firmware. Any help in bringing the decoder back to normal functioning is appreciated. Tren

consisted S-Scale engines not responding?) (was Major QSI housekeeping)
Ed What command station are you using? If you are using advanced consisting and an NCE (or similarly implemented) command station then setting/changing CVs in the decoder will not clear the consist information in the command station. If the decoders properly reset (during the power interruption event) then CV19 should =0 AND the decoder address was reset to (short) address 3. However, there is nothing you can do in the decoder that will clear any consist information stored in the command station – you need to clear that information using the clear consist command(s). Programming Twin BLI AC6000 Locos, Problems? 5
I have 2 AC6000 locos (Union Pacific) with stock Paragon 2 decoders,....one of them #7500, the other #7501 The 7500 loco programmed to its cab number just fine. The second one 7501, does not appear to program at all. It won't run , nor sound off. On the NCE programming track it reads that it has a BLI decoder 038, version 005 I also have a BLI address changer that indicates via the 'read track' that it has a 7501 number. But when I hit the 'read decoder' button, it says None. I then use the address changer to put the 7501 address in, and it at first appears to take it, but then reverts to 'none' on the "read decoder', but continues to read 7501 on the 'read track' button. I'm confused ??

RTC to STC and Vice Versa 10
I am new to this group but not to DCC including Qsi so apologies if my search strategy was not done well. I have a TLT Northern. RTC is the default setting. For reasons that are not relevant here I want to change it to STC. What do I do? I have been unable to find anything helpful. Help! Chestertrains

QSI sound system vs Sierra Sound System
I have the original QSI in my Aristocraft Mikado converted to 1/20th scale: . https://youtu.be/49EgsUS9uZQ And recently got a couple of Bachmann Connies needing repair, they both have the Sierra Sound System and the startup sounds are exactly the same as my QSI board. . https://youtube.com/shorts/PJa-xyRYBM4 Were the two companies working together? The Sierra is basically DC only without added hardware but I am working on getting all mine setup to use ProMiniAir to control with a smartphone. .www.oscaledeadrail.com Russell Courtenay Solemnity and profundity are sublime in inequity.

Resource that might be useful: QSI Upgrade Log File "QuantumUpgradeHistoryLog.txt"
The QSI Upgrade Log file can be a useful resource. If it were generated, it can be found in the "QSI folder" rooted in the C:/Program FIles */ folder on a Windows System disk, under the names: "QuantumUpgradeHistoryLog.txt" for QSI Upgrade Version 3.x and "Q2UpgradeHistoryLog.txt" for QSI Upgrade Version2.x It was a useful resource recently in regaining the confidence on proceeding with a firmware/sounds re-load when forgetting many of the details after many years of inactivity with the QSI tools and decoders. Prime Mover (Diesel Motor) sounds missing from *.q3 files - is this right? 3
Sorry for possible duplication of info in other posts. I am using the "QSI Upgrade" program Version 3.1.0.0 - the same was true with "QSI Upgrade" Version 3.0.0.1 After step "Load File", consisting in loading a *.q3 file - sound file for QSI Titan Q3 Decoders - I can't see the Prime Mover sounds among the sounds that can be "Cut and Paste" or "Preview Sounds" before uploading into a QSI-Titan decoder. I've checked about 10 or 15 *.q3 Diesel and Turbine files, and all seem to be missing the Prime Mover sounds. Is this right? How can this be? Is there another source for the Prime Mover sounds, that need be plugged into the QSI Upgrade for uploading in a QSI Titan Decoder? I have a "Diesel_Libraries_v0-0-06.qxl" file in one of my folders, but can't remember its purpose, nor how to "plug it into" the QSI Upgrade. Any info that might help is appreciated. Thank you, Tren

Atlas Gold QSI Loco with Titan Decoder " Wand " Reset 10
Hi I'm trying to reset this Atlas Gold H600 diesel to the factory settings using their wand. I'm doing everything but no go. What does the reed switch look like at the top of the loco? The wand should be over it like in the pic. I have the shell off and nothing looks like a switch :(. I hold the wand over the area with the DCC power off (Digitrax Evolution) and then power up. I should hear a voice say reset but not today. Any ideas? Thanks

Atlas HO HH600 Diesel losing its Sounds 2
This engine is from 2013, an Atlas Gold Boston & Albany HH600. I believe its QSI and not Loksounds. It's been running fine until yesterday where the sounds just faded out. Then each time I power up the engine, the sounds come on and then fade out after maybe 5-6 seconds. The wheels and track are clean and the engine runs back and forth and the lights work. Any ideas? I did a factory reset with my Digitrax Evolution. Thanks!

Four digit programming issue 11
Recently my 2009 Proto 2000 F-7 stopped moving, so I did the following; 1. re-set with magnetic wand 2. started the reprogramming process. When I tried to reprogram the engine number, it would not accept the four digit number. It does accept a two digit number and other sound and speed settings. I was following the manual's instructions. Is there another procedure? Thanks, Bob Wundrock

Failed QSI Ver 7 Decoder??? 21
I have a old P2K U28B loco with a version 7 QSI decoder in it that I think has failed. When I try to read it with my NCE system, with programming booster, I get no decodder detected. Then tried reading it with DecoderPro operating thru a Digitrax PR4 and all of CVs return 255. I tried writing to several CVs with both metohds and i get nothing. I then tried a factory reset per the manual directions, magnet to reed switch while power is applied. Nada, so I'm thinking it is dead. Any suggestions to try to recover it? Thanks, John Moonan

Atlas O SW switcher reset? 2
Gang, I have a Atlas O SW8 with the factory DCC / Sound set up. The QSI tag is marked 1037-OV7-25-0 SW 8-9 (C) 2008 QSI Bought this used... Everything seems to work OK except the lights. in forward, f light is on but cuts out as speed is increased and then comes back on. Reverse light only flashes on then off at random times. R light will also go out and back on as speed changes. I went to JMRI to do a factory reset but am confused at all the options. I want to get to a headlight that is on in forward direction and goes out or least really dims when in reverse and reverse direction light that is on in reverse and off or really dim in forward. Thanks in advance. Bruce in Mount Airy, MD

Problem with "Protosound [QSI herald with a small yellow lightning bolt on a black background]." 3
I have several engines with this 1st generation sound, and I was using them with a MTH Z-1000 TRANSFORMER about 20ish years ago. They worked fine. Finally got a new house and able to build a new layout and the engines no longer work. When I apply power, the proto engine sound starts, and if I cycle the throttle, I get that funny clunk sound (like an uncoupling), but horn and bell do not work, and the engines won't move. I saw something on the net about white and yellow batteries. Do they have some kind of battery that needs to be replaced? Any other ideas? thanks.

QS2+ ADPCM Format Question
Hello group, A few years ago I extracted the ROM files from a few MTH ProtoSound 1 boards I had in my collection. My sister and I reverse-engineered these ROMs with the goal of exporting the sound data to a playable format (i.e. WAV). The project was successful, but there was one small problem. Upon listening to the WAV files generated by the program my sister coded, it became apparent that several samples were quite noisy and/or distorted. We figured at the time that perhaps these noisy samples were encoded as 8-bit PCM files as opposed to 16-bit. We tested this by importing the ROM files as raw data into a software called Audacity, and the samples were still just as noisy if not moreso. Incidentally, in order to get the sounds to play at the right speed, we had to export the sound data at a curious sample rate of 7560 Hz. A few years went by without work on the project being done. One day I asked my sister about the possibility of trying to fix the noisy sample problem. It was at that point that she speculated the 1990s QS2+ sound system encoded the samples in a proprietary ADPCM format. If that is the case, it would be quite difficult to reverse engineer such a thing. The question I pose to the QSI folks is, were the QS2+ sound files encoded in a proprietary format, or is there another reason why some of the samples I extracted were noisy? Thanks in advance for any insights. Sincerely, Eli Santin

User Sound Effect Feature 4
Hopefully, someone here has successfully added a user triggered sound effect to a particular sound file. I have added sound wave files to a Q2 sound project that works on activating the preview box in the cut-and-paste sounds section of Q2 Upgrade. ("works" meaning I can hear the various sounds I added). Before downloading this altered file into an HO Titan decoder, I need to establish how to trigger this sound effect. I can't find any reference or assistance in the full Titan manual. ( I'm presuming it's a function button trigger!) Any assistance will be appreciated. Colin Seggie Virus-free.www.avast.com
