Steam sound choice 9
Hello all. New to this group, and am in the process of building a fictional steam railway shunting yard.I grew up in Bulawayo Rhodesia ( now Zimbabwe) but only recall the sounds of articulated Garratts. I'm hoping some members can assist me in correct loco sound choice, as well. So I'm in HO scale and I possess two spare brand new Titan U decoders both loaded with a gas turbine sound 5100-760. Kelly sold me a Titan -U articulated steam in 2022 which is finally installed and working like a dream. Locos still requiring sound decoders class 15 2-6-2, and class 19 4-8-2. I have a dedicated programming setup including a working Quantum programmer. My request is please may I have access to HO scale Titan -U medium and large steam sound files, so that I may review the sounds and choose which is appropriate for each remaining loco. Thanks in advance. Colin Seggie

The quest for Titan "diesel modulated" smoke
OK, so I've been able to modulate a smoke unit with a steam loco, i.e. tie the fan output to the firebox flicker, and the fan pulses perfectly in time with chuff (firebox brightens with the exhaust chuff) Now I am on the quest for modulating the smoke fan speed for a diesel. Is there any lighting effect that represents/follows the diesel motor speed/load? I've set my test station to have LEDs for all 12 "LED outputs" so I can experiement. Any suggestions? Q2Upgrade error message 3
Hello, Long story short: I've been programming magnums maybe about 15-20 years ago, everything works fine. I bought a Titan directly from Josh at the Big E train show in Springfield, MA when they were freshly released. I opened up the sealed bag of the decoder last week. When I connected my old Vista computer having the Q2Upgrade software, I have the following error: To verify my connections, I connected the programmer directly on my programming track to read an old RS-3 having a magnum. It worked without any problem. Like Greg wrote on his excellent pages, I replaced the power supply by a 15 VDC, 1Amp one. The problem still persist. Do I have to upgrade the my Q2upgrade software? Is that error message linked with something else? Thanks for your help, Yves.

Changing to radio control 6
I want to implement radio control and need to learn more. First there is a whole field of suppliers each with their own ideas, some not following what NMRA standards exist for DCC. So far I have investigated WiFiTrax, AirWire (Reindeer Pass), S-cab and each has some nice features. But there are several ideas I need to resolve first. I have got the Quantum Programmer and Quantum CV Manager working and can drive an engine from a Windows 7 PC. Power is through the rails. From the CV manager I can download CV values from the engine and store them in the computer, make changes and write them back or even load an entirely different engine into the decoder. Can I assume that this means that this is technically a closed loop control system? If I change to battery power and radio control, there will be no longer any link from the decoder to the transmitter over radio signal. The CV Manager will not be able to read back the CV values and one will just have to assume that the a CV value gets written to the engine decoder correctly. My understanding is the the S-cab system installs a transmitter in the decoder and one can get feedback. Actually is it that important that there be feedback from the decoder? Nicholas Geti

WTB: Titan-U decoders 8
I just discovered this group and signed on hoping to learn more about using the Titan-U in a radio controlled system. In the meantime I wanted to get some more Titans but learned that they are out of production and no more are available. Are there any available used from members of this group? Nicholas Geti

Multiple Questions on Decoder problems 10
To [email protected] Hi Group, I just very recently joined this group as I was unable to get answers (or even replies) regarding my QSI Decoder (s) Here are the problems: I recently purchased (brand new but old stock) a pair of Proto 2000 Milw Rd E-7As Road No 18a & 18b. PROBLEM #1 Beautiful models and runners. BUT, the lead unit (no coupler on front end) has no sound. All other DCC functions work just fine, motor, lights, etc. I have tried resetting both with the wand and through DCC controller (Digitrax) I do not get the “Reset” reply but the loco does reset to 3. I do not know whether this group allows pictures but I will try and include a picture of my board. I have had no reply at all from QSI. Somebody got back to me from Walthers, advising they had a board for a steam engine (model escapes me) I do not have a QSI Programmer to reset the sound. BTW, the sound works fine in 18b. Suggestions, Answers, Fixes ANYTHING to try and solve the problem I have found these units for $280 on eBay, little much to pay for just the sound card. PROBLEM #2 How can you get a QSI locomotive to run programmed in the reverse direction? Both units being As, and rather than MUing I would just like to assign the same loco number, as I have done with a number of other AA and ABA Sets.. I have over 120 engines in G, HO and N which have either DCC or DCC with Sound so I am somewhat familiar with DCC. About 7 or 8 of which have QSI systems. (Atlas Trainmasters, GG1s) With all other systems (mostly ESU, Marklin, Lenz and Digitrax plus proprietaries) it’s an easy reset in CV. In QSI, though I’ve poured over the manuals I cannot see / find the process. Any help / assistance greatly appreciated. Helmut Wisinger Kamloops, BC. Canada in HO since 52 and n since 62 (one of the very earlies)

Identify This Decoder and Screw Terminal Assignments 2
Hello, I’m looking for help in identifying this DCC Decoder. I think it is from QSI. I was told it has motor, sound and light control. I’d also like to find out what each screw terminal does. What functions do they control? There are three sets of screw terminal connectors on the decoder or adapter board. Kindest Regards, Brian Huang brian.huang@... 309-826-2992

Welcome to new members! 7
I created this group to help people with the QSI Solutions products, mostly the Revolution and the Titan. Personally I only have experience with the G scale products, but I did collect a lot of information, and have some software that is not commonly available. I've also tried to get every sound file I can lay my hands on. I'll use this forum to post in the files section to help others. I'm also working with the little known chuff capabilities, that were put in just before Josh went dark, and these commands were in very specific versions of CV Manager (they are NOT in the current version). Welcome all! Greg

The titan A is new with original packaging, asking $100 plus shipping The Titan U is new also but since I cut the capacitor off (was planning to install a TCS KA) I an selling it as used. It has never been installed in a loco....I did bench test it after re-connecting the Capacitor and it functioned without any pproblems. Ask $75 plus shipping, I will stand behind this decoded if it doesn't function correctly. Please contact me off list at edsauers@... if interested. Thanks Ed Sauers

Engineering Tab CVs 7
I have installed CV Manager ver 3_0_0_000 and overwritten the exe file with ver 3_0_0_018. The program runs and now shows the Engineering tab. The ASR tab also shows up under Engineering but all of the CVs are grayed out. How are these activated? The CVs under other tabs in Engineering seem to be active. Also, is there any information anywhere about what all of the parameters under the Engineering tab mean and what actions they perform and/or cause? Thanks for any information anyone can provide. -- Jerry Davis

sound files for LS Revolution/Magnum 4
I have a pretty extensive collection of the sound files for these decoders. I see that Josh's site no longer has these files. I won't upload all of the files to this site, check my page here for the listing of the files that I have found: https://elmassian.com/index.php/dcc/specific-manufacturers/qsi-equipment/qsi-revolution-magnum/qsi-sound-file-settings Greg

New advances for G scale Titan decoders
I've been working on bringing up the last improvements in the G scale QSI Titan decoders. The Titans have an "emulator technology" (ET) that was basically like a "flight simulator" for a locomotive, i.e. capable of sound control that reacted much more realistically to the actual locomotive speed, load, acceleration, and even the "condition" of the loco. The Diesel sound files were worked out completely before QSI Solutions went offline. These files sound great and have lots of "personalization" including the "horn builder" which lets you "assemble" a horn with any number of chimes, frequencies, volumes, etc. You can even simulate a horn array with a damaged or off tune horn. But I was never satisfied with the "new" "emulator technology" sound files for the steamers. I remember the email from Josh what was very excited with a configuration file for all the CV's. When I loaded this new "ET" file, I was disappointed with the chuff sound, it was weak and had no "personality". Lately I have been organizing my many files I have for these decoders, and came across Josh's email, and noted the configuration file. This is normally loaded into the Quantum CV Manager software, and loads all the CVs for you, a way to have a copy of all CVs and archive settings you like. I had loaded this file at the time. On a whim, I looked into the file with a text editor and saw a TON of CVs that were not familiar. Sure enough, after some research, there are all the settings for the new chuff sounds BUT they were ignored by the CV Manager software. Apparently more recent versions of the software omitted these settings, so my decoders were NEVER programmed as intended. I just found out the versions of the software that will indeed display and set these CVs, and I'm sure this is going to bear fruit. I'm going to explore and post my results here and on my web site. Here's the relevant page, still under construction, and I have uploaded the "best" CV Manager files to use. *https://elmassian.com/index.php/dcc/specific-manufacturers/qsi-equipment/qsi-programmer-hw-a-sw* ( https://elmassian.com/index.php/dcc/specific-manufacturers/qsi-equipment/qsi-programmer-hw-a-sw ) Greg

Status of Josh
The company as a business went south, profit wise. You can get 2 different stories depending on who you talk to. I really don't want to get into this on this forum, and don't want bad feelings on either side, to wit: I personally have been approached by QS Industries about the possibility of manufacturing more G scale Titans. I'm interested, and will pursue this early next year. Greg
