QSI 683 ac adapter replacement
Greetings group. I need to replace my QSI683 ac adapter. Can anyone suggest the correct adapter. I purchased one suggested by Cloudy Nights but the camera power cord was too short [43 inches long]. I need one that is at least 58 inches long. Eduardo

NGC 3344 image 5
This is an image of NGC 3344, a weakly barred spiral galaxy in Leo Minor that is infrequently imaged. Roughly 1/2 the size of the Milky Way galaxy, it is about 25M l-y distant and belongs to a small group of galaxies known as the Leo spur, a branch of the giant Virgo super-cluster. Professional studies have shown a peculiar distribution of star velocities in the outer arms of the galaxy, something that isn't easily explained by influence from the central bulge or the bar. It's possible this is the result of an interaction with a dwarf companion galaxy sometime in the past, an event that might also account for the widespread areas of star formation (pink areas) in NGC 3344. The image was taken during four nights in Feb-Mar 2025 with a CDK 12.5" scope and a QSI-640ws camera at f/8 from SkyPi Remote Observatory. Total LRGB integration was 16 hours. https://coldphotons.com/zen_astro/astro_images/NGC3344_LRGB_Web.jpg Thanks for looking, Bruce W.

NGC 3338 image 5
This is NGC 3338, a spiral galaxy in Leo that is almost never imaged. I don't know the reason for that unless it's because there are five other larger and better-known spiral galaxies in Leo. There is also little information about the galaxy online other than "it's there" and has a mass nearly as large as the Milky Way galaxy. The spiral arm structure is rather unusual. On the right side in this image, the arms are fairly smooth and well-formed like a "grand spiral". But on the opposite side, things look more chaotic with "fragments" of spiral arms lying at odd angles. The galaxy is part of a small group and there are two dwarf galaxies that orbit NGC 3338, so maybe that accounts for the odd structure. The image was taken during three nights in Feb 2025 with a CDK 12.5" scope and a QSI-640ws camera at f/8 from SkyPi Remote Observatory. Total LRGB integration was 17 hours. https://coldphotons.com/zen_astro/astro_images/NGC3338_LRGB_Web.jpg Thanks for looking, Bruce W.

6120 Dark Frames in Question 2
Hello Community! Hello! I am in the midst of a sale of a QSI6120 and am looking to gather some sample data from some other QSI 6120 owners to have some apples to apples comparisons. I own 2 and both exhibit similar noise profiles but I am being told there is something wrong with them and would really appreciate some help. my understanding has been these are quite low noise cameras so the structured noise can be visible where as in others it can be hidden under the larger noise floor. Here are a recent set of the first camera: https://drive.google...?usp=drive_link Could anyone please share some raw dark frames examples or if you could take a look at these and give a sanity check. Thank you!!

What's Up With Atik & QSI
I recently looked at SharpCap as a possible addition to my software suite. I noticed that Atik is listed among the supported cameras but QSI is not. That prompted me to look at the Atik website and I noticed that QSI is nowhere to be found there. When I go to QSImaging.com, I see a history of Atik's acquisition of QSI and mention of "[t]he integration of QSI into Atik’s operations". It doesn't seem very integrated to me when Atik completely ignores QSI on its Website. Can someone enlighten me on the story here? Is this a matter of design and manufacturing being integrated, but sales channels being completely separate? Or, is there more to this? And, lastly, do I surmise correctly that SharpCap does NOT support QSI cameras? Thank you, Manning B

PinPoint DemoExtender not running Maxim DL 6x
Hi Will, Yes, I will do as you suggest and explain the error to the forum. And I do need to change the topic thread. I started with Maxim LE back a few years ago as a learning starting point and am very comfortable with Maxim and Diffraction Limited. I too, am too old to learn new tricks and don't want to start all over again. What was so curious is that when I got the "Pinpoint LE restored successfully" message, and I tried to open Maxim 6, I received a new message that said "Maxim LE failed to downgrade PinPoint Full to LE. PInPoint has been disabled. Please contact customer support. I am not sure what that means but just maybe Colin can explain it to me. One last thing I accidently discovered was when I received the error "Pinpoint serial validation failed - no validator engine, code = = 2147221005" --- I would hit the OK button, and the message would not go away. Earlier, I had to do a forced shutdown of my PC which I did not like. But later, just for the sake of it, I kept clicking the OK button and after about the 7th time, Maxim DL 6 would open! That was very odd and I don't think that is the correct way to go, Anyway, thanks for all your appreciative time and effort. Eduardo From: [email protected] <[email protected]> on behalf of WILL B via groups.io <william.bristow@...> Sent: Friday, March 14, 2025 7:32 PM To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [QSI-CCD] Driver Setup Dialog Error Hi Eduardo. I suspect that something has changed in Windows 11 recently to cause this problem, or there is some unwanted side-effect of having installed MaxIm DL 7 previously. There is another MaxIm DL 6.x user with exactly the same problem just yesterday on the Diffraction Limited forum and he also reported today that the patch file does not seem to work, although his problem began with a Windows crash. I suggest that you update your topic thread on the MaxIm support forum and explain that you have the PinPoint Serial Validation Error and can’t correct it by running the DemoExtender patch file on MaxIm DL 6.50 and then wait for Colin Haig of Diffraction Limited to get back to you when he returns from vacation on Monday next week. To use your QSI 683 in the meantime you could try MaxIm D7 and the QSI ASCOM drivers again, remembering from earlier that you may have to uninstall and reinstall the QSI drivers a couple of times using Windows “add and remove programs” in Windows Settings before the QSI ASCOM driver gets properly installed. If you want to try a free alternative to MaxIm with the QSI683 then several QSI users here will be using N.I.N.A., although with the same limitations as in MaxIm DL 7 that you can’t access all the features of the 683 camera through the QSI ASCOM driver. Nevertheless N.I.N.A is a good match for the QSI 6 series cameras and appears from what I’ve heard that it is a more stable capture program than MaxIm, and faster to download images from the camera. Unfortunately I’m tied into MaxIm myself because my observatory is run under DC3Dreams ACP control, which only works with MaxIm, PinPoint and FocusMax, and I’ve put too many years into getting this setup working reliably unattended to change now (and getting too old to learn new tricks also!). You can download the free capture application N.I.N.A. >here< and see if it meets your needs until Diffraction Limited can resolve the problem with PinPoint, but I can’t help you with anything in N.I.N.A. as I don’t use it. Will.

Driver Setup Dialog Error 18
Hello Group, Purchased an new PC W11, updated to Maxim DL 7.11, installed drivers and software for QSI, installed ASCOM Platform 7. In trying to setup my QSI 683wsg in the Setup tab, I see the "Setup ASCOM" with the following below, ASCOM Plug-in Version 7.1.0 Copyright @2009-2024 Diffracted Limited Support: www.diffractlionlimited.com Camera Model ASCOM Initially, I was instructed to click on the ASCOM settings in the Setup tab, click Advanced, and it would bring up ASCOM Chooser. Click [Properties] and select QSI CCD. All works up to this point. Then upon clicking [Properties] I get --- "Driver Setup Dialog Error", I get this response -- COMException - The remote procedure call failed. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BE) This means that the setup dialogue would not start properly. I appreciate any help from the group Eduardo

QSI683 randomly disconnecting 5
Dear All, I suffer from random camera disconnection. Camera: QSI683wsg with ASCOM platform 6.4 SP1 on Windows 10 Basically everything starts normally but then after a while I get a disconnection and the session is blocked. Even worse, normally it happens when I sleep so I wake up in the morning only to realize I did only a small fraction of an entire night, which is so frustrating. Does anybody have the same issue and how did you solve it? Clear skies Nicola

M96 image 5
This is an image of M96, a bright spiral galaxy in Leo and part of a small group of galaxies. First catalogued by Messier in 1781, it is roughly the same size as the Milky Way galaxy but has an unusually asymmetric structure. The stars and dust in the arms aren't distributed uniformly and the galaxy core is offset from the geometric center of the disk. The spiral arms are poorly defined and aren't delineated by the usual symmetric dust lanes. In fact, some of the larger dust lanes curve into the galaxy nucleus. This makes M96 markedly different from the photogenic "grand design" spiral galaxies that are visible elsewhere in the sky. The structural irregularities are presumed to be the result of historical gravitational interactions with other galaxies in the Leo group. There are many background galaxies in the frame including a striking edge-on spiral galaxy that is peeking through the M96 disk at the 5:00 position in the image. The target was imaged during 6 nights in Jan-Feb 2025 using a 12.5" PlaneWave scope and a QSI-640ws camera at f/8 from SkyPi Remote Observatories. Seeing conditions were generally poor with turbulent winter weather conditions in New Mexico. Total LRGB integration was 16.7 hours. https://coldphotons.com/zen_astro/astro_images/M96_LRGB_Web.jpg Thanks for looking, Bruce W.

NGC 2153 image 4
This is an image of NGC 2158, a dense open cluster that could be imaged in a short amount of time during tough winter conditions in New Mexico. Once thought to be a globular cluster because of its size and density, it is now known to be an intermediate-age, metal-poor open cluster that is a member of the old thin disk population. Most open clusters are disrupted by tidal forces in only a few million years yet this cluster is thought to be nearly 2B years old. As a result, its original hot blue stars have evolved off the main sequence leaving behind a redder population of stars. The target was imaged during 3 nights in the period from Dec 2024 to Feb 2025 using a 12.5" PlaneWave scope and a QSI-640ws camera at f/8 from SkyPi Remote Observatories. Total LRGB integration was a short 5 hours. https://coldphotons.com/zen_astro/astro_images/NGC2158_LRGB_Web.jpg Thanks for looking, Bruce W.

QSI6162 for sale
Before I list this on cloudy nights I wanted to see if anyone in the group might have an interest. I purchased this in 2021 and it’s been housed in my observatory. It has the 8 position filter wheel and off-axis guider. Nothing wrong with the camera, just moving on to a new setup. If you have any interest you can email me peterproulx@.... Thanks, Pete

QSI760 Issues 7
Does anyone know if there is a more recent driver for the QSI760 than the v2024.09.05? I am having frequent USB communication issues as described by @Nycturne in post #28649. My QSI760 is at a remote site so troubleshooting takes time. Currently I have the camera connected to a PegasusAstro UPBv2 then through the AP Mach2 mount and ultimately to a Beelink minipc. The USB3 cables are all from reputable companies. To further troubleshoot, I'm in the process of replacing the USB cables with ones from L-Comm and upgrading the UPBv2 to UPBv3. Obviously I cannot change the internal AP Mach2 cable. The problems I have are these 2 types General Comm Error - At some point during an imaging sequence, there will be a problem downloading an image. After that point, the QSI760 passes the last correct image. I have encountered this error while performing an APCC modeling run. It will occur after a large number of images (175-225). The only way to fix it is to power cycle the QSI760. Image Interruption - I am using Voyager to remote image. Sometimes during the imaging run, Voyager will abort an image in process to handle a meridian flip or due to a safety parameter. Voyager will download the aborted image basically as a dark frame. And from that point forward, the QSI760 will not complete a frame download. I can see in the log where it is calling for the download, but it never completes. Again the only way to solve this is to power cycle the camera. It is very frustrating to have these problems. Out of 10 nights, I wake up to problems 8 times. There has to be a way for the drivers to perform an automatic reset instead of the user having to power cycle the QSI760. I have a ASI6200 and never had a problem with this same setup. rebel

Question about screw size on QSI-683 3
Hi, I have a QSI-683 that I'd like to mount a support bracket where the liquid cooler would be attached, and I'd like to find the size of the mounting holes. The ones that come with the camera seem to be roughly 3.5mm in diameter, but I've heard that QSI tends to use imperial screws so I don't think they are M3.5. Does anyone know the size? I need to get longer ones for what I have planned. Thanks, -Joe

NGC 1253 and friend 5
This is an image of NGC 1253 and 1253a, a pair of colliding spiral galaxies in Eridanus that will eventually merge into a single, amorphous elliptical galaxy. The two galaxies share a common envelope of hydrogen gas which is most easily seen in the area between the two galaxies. The gravitational interaction has pretty clearly triggered a burst of new star formation in both galaxies as evidenced by the bright OB star associations where the two galaxies are closest together. The image was captured during a 5-night period in December 2024 using a 12.5" PlaneWave scope and a QSI-640ws camera at f/8 from SkyPi Remote Observatories. Total LRGB integration was 17 hours. https://coldphotons.com/zen_astro/astro_images/NGC1253_LRGB_Web.jpg Thanks for looking, Bruce W.
