QSI760 Issues

 

Does anyone know if there is a more recent driver for the QSI760 than the v2024.09.05?
?
I am having frequent USB communication issues as described by @Nycturne in post #28649. ?My QSI760 is at a remote site so troubleshooting takes time. ?Currently I have the camera connected to a PegasusAstro UPBv2 then through the AP Mach2 mount and ultimately to a Beelink minipc. ?The USB3 cables are all from reputable companies. ?To further troubleshoot, I'm in the process of replacing the USB cables with ones from L-Comm and upgrading the UPBv2 to UPBv3. ?Obviously I cannot change the internal AP Mach2 cable. ?The problems I have are these 2 types

  1. General Comm Error - At some point during an imaging sequence, there will be a problem downloading an image. ?After that point, the QSI760 passes the last correct image. ?I have encountered this error while performing an APCC modeling run. ?It will occur after a large number of images (175-225). ?The only way to fix it is to power cycle the QSI760.
  2. Image Interruption - I am using Voyager to remote image. ?Sometimes during the imaging run, Voyager will abort an image in process to handle a meridian flip or due to a safety parameter. ?Voyager will download the aborted image basically as a dark frame. ?And from that point forward, the QSI760 will not complete a frame download. ?I can see in the log where it is calling for the download, but it never completes. ?Again the only way to solve this is to power cycle the camera.
It is very frustrating to have these problems. ?Out of 10 nights, I wake up to problems 8 times. ?There has to be a way for the drivers to perform an automatic reset instead of the user having to power cycle the QSI760. ?I have a ASI6200 and never had a problem with this same setup. ?

Not sure if you can use either of these workarounds, but the reason you see these so frequently is likely because you are hooked up to a USB Hub and trying to get USB 3 speeds.?

1) If you can bypass the hub to the Beelink, you should see much more reliable performance. This is what I do, with my Beelink mounted on top of my Pegasus UPB.

2) If you drop it down to USB2 speeds, you may be able to avoid this at the cost of longer download times. You may be able to guess why I didn¡¯t do this.

For the image interruptions triggered by Voyager, what exposure times do you happen to be using? What I noticed is that if you interrupt an exposure, it doesn¡¯t seem to stop the exposure, just discard it once the exposure is done. So if you interrupt a 10 min exposure, you need to wait up to 10 min before starting a new exposure will work. At least with my NINA setup and the camera test app, this has been true.?

  1. Because this is at a remote location, I have to have an ethernet cable to the Beelink and currently have it located on the pier. ?So I would either have to string an ethernet cable up to the computer (if I move the Beelink to the OTA) or bring a USB cable down. ?Kind of defeats the purpose of the Mach2's through the mount cables. ?(I do wish AP would add an ethernet cable to their through the mount cables. ?I would give us a lot more options.)
  2. I'm trying USB2 now but am still having issues. ?With my long subs, long download times are not critical to me.
  3. My setup is at a bortle 1 site so I'm routinely taking 20 min subs or even longer. ?If there is an interrupt, having to wait 5-15 min before initiating another sub is suboptimal even if I can program it in Voyager. ?Another possible solution is to see if Voyager can recognize a fault and then program it to cycle the power - not elegant either. ? By the way, I had similar problems using NINA.

If Atik is unable to solve these problems, I think my best course of action is to sell the QSI760. ?Short-term, I'm probably going to swap it out with my more reliable ASI6200 (pains me to say this). ?That's the price I pay when I decide to live on the edge and go with an unproven product. ?Every product has limitations. ?In my current use case, I'm finding the QSI760 is not a viable alternative.?

  1. I just noticed that there is a selection box in the ASCOM driver for a dew heater.? I wasn't even aware the QSI760 had one.
  2. In the QSIDemoApp, it has the ability for a Fast Download which I couldn't find in the ASCOM driver.? I would never use it anyway, but just a FYI.
