The Great Freeze Your Butt Off Adventure

Hi All,

This Saturday from 0600 to 1400 is the FYBO QRP contest. You get multiple points for how cold it is. Nick and I will be at Monte Bello Open Space campground. The parking lot and trail access it located on Page Mill Road near Skyline. We plan to be there from Friday 1400 until Sunday 1000 rain or shine. So come one come all to cheer us on. We will be operating on CW ( 7.040 & 14.060) SSB (7.185, 7.285 14.285, 14.342.5). We will try and monitor the K6NFI repeater. Here is a Google map of the trail which is about 1.7 miles up hill to the campsite that Nick put together:

Nick can you a add a few notes and your call sign.

Howdy Folks,
It's looking pretty overcast out there. :)? If you look just past the campsite on that map you can see the summit of Black Mountain, nice views from up there.? The elevation gain from parking lot to camp looks to be about 400' over 1.7 miles.? A friend from SCCARA is planning on coming out tomorrow if it's not too rainy, I think.? Last time I was up there I had 5 bars on my cell phone, there's an antenna tower in between camp and the Black Mountain summit.? Also, there's a payphone up there, (650) 948-9634.? Feel free to wake Dave with a prank call.

Wow, I am so jealous. But here I am without my RV and my foot in a cast. Stay dry and warm and have as much fun as possible. And don't forget to take pictures for the FBPC (Frozen Butt Picture Contest).

We got drenched last night! Antennas fell down in the wind and it was too loud to sleep much. ?We just had breakfast and are going to play on the radios from our tents for a bit. I have one CW contact on 20 so far. ?I don't think we'll be staying another night, too wet up here this weekend. ?

Sorry to see the weather worsen for you guys. I was packed and ready to go until I looked out the window this morning. After checking?the forecast, I thought that hiking in a T storm and dodging lightning might not be a good idea!

Nick and Dave,
Sorry to hear about the bad WX. I got a bad cold and my voice is totally hoarse, so unlikely to make a hike up there. ?But I would listen for you on 20m CW at home this afternoon.
Hiroki

Try to stay warm and dry.
