Saturday outing

QRPosters,

I am ready, able and interested to do some field outing this Saturday. If anyone wants to organize a particular outing, I am open. If not, I suggest that we meet at Windy Hill, south parking lot at 2pm (22:00Z). We can operate at the picnic bench next to the parking or go up to the summit, about 10-15 minutes hike.

Nick, if you are free on Saturday, is it possible to do your demonstration of K3 remote control, say between 2 and 3, ?and do our usual operating QRP afterwards?

73,

Hiro AH6CY
?

Hi Hiro,
Thank you for the invitation.? I have a backpacking trip down in Henry Coe planned this weekend.? I'll be out on Saturday and Sunday.? I'm planning on being on the air once we get to camp.? I believe I'm open next Saturday, have to work in the late-afternoon though.

Nick et al,

Looks like we may potentially have three subgroups operating this weekend: Death Valley, Henry Coe and Windy Hill. Can we all agree to try to listen/transmit on the QRP frequencies: (both USB and CW) 18157.5+/-, 14342.5+/- QRM.

Hi Hiro and the rest of the group.

First off, I will be happy to meet you up on Skyline on Saturday. Also,?I just received my 9 1/2' telescoping whip to attach to the top of the MP-1. Now I only need to put some kind of a ground spike together, so the antenna will be off the ground a couple of feet. I can meet you a little earlier if it works for you.

Nice to see so many members out in the field this weekend. Have a great weekend Nick. As for the Dave Crocker, Dave Flack, and Neil......stay warm and enjoy the serenity and salt ground in Death Valley. Let's hope the solar gods bless us all with ample propagation.

Happy New Year,

Tim, k6om

Tim and others who may be able to join the Windy Hill group:

Let's meet at 1pm at the south parking lot of Windy Hill, off Skyline Blvd.
?
Tim, instead of a ground spike you can also easily use a camera tripod (heavier the better, but a light one will work, too) to keep the MP-1 off ground. The clamp and aluminum piece that came with the MP-1 allow you to attach it to anything. You may want to use additional small carpenter's clamp. In fact, you can directly attach it to the picnic table. Have you thought of increasing the length of the bottom steel piece by connecting an extra bolt??

I'll definitely tune in 18157.5+/-, 14342.5+/- while up there and call CQ throughout the time I'm there.? Can we agree on a time when we'll all be on freq just to increase the chances of a QSO?? Perhaps 3PM?

Nick,

Let's add 14.060 and 18.096 to the mix as well! If Hiro and I meet at 1:00, then start looking for us around 2:00. That will give us time to set up and catch up on what's been going on.

Hiro,

I'll bring the stock base and clamp with me. My only tripod is a bit heavy duty for such a light antenna. Yes, I will be threading up additional pieces of 3/8" rod to increase the base height, but may not have time between now and then. If I keep modifying the MP-1, it could end up as a full size 40 meter vertical?
