New 20m Vertical

I just posted pics of a 20m vertical I just built to the .? It's pretty lightweight.
I'm planning on setting it up tomorrow at AmTech day to see how it works.? This is what I'm planning on bringing up to FYBO.

I also had no idea there was a 20ft model ... mine arrived
today. The merchant may start to wonder what's going on with
all the fishing activity in California all of a sudden - hi.

I was looking at the pics you posted under "pacifica"
Was that a vertical moxon and if so, how did that perform?
Also - did you try rotating it to measure performance?

Also - Here's a shortened vertical design - wonder if anyone has tried such a config?

73 - and good luck with the activity this weekend.

Another super clean and effective vertical from you workshop Nick. Your antenna support is much lighter than my version and better suited for the hike in operation.?

Let's hope the skies are clear next weekend,

Tim

Hi Deon,
That was a moxon that you saw in those pictures.? Dave put it up so I'll let him talk about it.? He was all over Tasmania and Australia with his 10w 703 that day though.

Regarding that vertical, I think Tim did something like that with his 14' pole.? I remember seeing something similar at Pacific Shores on afternoon before he did his Oregon -> SFO bike trip last year.

Deon,

I am still experimenting with the Moxon 2 element vertical. I off-set fed the thing with a 4:1 balun to try and get the feed point closer to the ground. It is supported by two Jackite 31 ft. poles using the metal holders that Jackite makes for the poles and no guys, which OK if there is no wind. I want to try end feed the driven element using a length of RG-174 as half the driven element with a choke balun to decouple the feed point. I have seen people do this with an end-fed vertical dipole.

We should set up a schedule and try to work you on 20M. You might listen for us on Saturday on 14.345.5 which is the HF Packer frequency. There is usually nobody there but I plan to call CQ FYBO and give it a try. We will also be on 14.285 which is the QRP freq.

Call me on the cell if all else fails...415 308 3461

Regards,?? Dave W6VYC

Thanks Nick, Dave

The Moxon end-fed idea sounds interesting.
I'll call you to setup a sched. We should have a path on 20m during FYBO. Wonder what kind of temps you guys are expecting for Sat?

Good luck with the setup tomorrow.
