Re: Chelegance MC-750 Clone from Ali Express

Verne, they are simple and easy to tune with nano vna, takes about? 5 minutes. As you can see, nice swr is possible 20 - 10.? I'm going to try the coil when it gets here.

Probably need to guy it for permanent install.? ?I don't for mine, but if wind comes up, I? just take it down.?

It's a great solution for both of us.? Hiroki, don't miss the boat on this.

Re: Chelegance MC-750 Clone from Ali Express

Doug,

I have done no actual antenna measurements since receiving the 1st unit in May. ?At the time I was comfortable with putting a ZachTec directly on the antenna. ?No tuning was done. ?I would never run another Xmtr such as a QDX without a Tuner. ?Too easy to blow the amp stage mosfets. ?No problem for receiving.
My goal is to have multiple WSPR xmtrs such as ZachTec mounted with antenna in back yard on Solar/battery power. ?$30 vs 250. ?
AliExpress has several vendors. ?Do a search. ?Prices can go up to $50. They also sell on eBay for $50-100 from China vendors. ?

¡®My 1st antenna was $21 due to a 1st time purchase discount. ?That discount will be displayed on some vendors. ?I cannot get same discount at checkout due to multiple antenna purchase. ?Free shipping most vendors plus pick the vendor with most sales.

Have not verified the coil included. ?You need to verify the ground side vs antenna side at coax terminal. ?Also I am still studying how to Mount for permanent installation. ?No problem for portable use. ?However I believe the counterpoise should be different than what is supplied.
Also the ground spike and antenna is metric threads. ?My 30 meter antenna is not setting on ground spike.?

Re: Friday

There is one thing I am certain about with weather forecasts.? The "experts" don't have any experience with the current conditions.

Tuesday, I saw forecast for high of 95.? I went for my weekly ride, just slower.? At the end it seemed really hot and my home thermometer read 105!

A ride for Sunday was rescheduled to start an hour earlier because of the heat.

Now one forecast suggests today will be a bit cooler and Friday only 90.?

Another forecast shows ~100 for next several days.

Friday might be OK for lunch in the shade, but probably not so nice for OPs.

Re: ZachTeks Summer Sale is on!

If you want to receive WSPR (and FT8) as well as transmit, a good (but higher priced) alternative for sending and monitoring beacons is the Hermes Lite 2. ?With an HL2 you can vary the transmit power from milliwatts up to 5 Watts. ?And at 1 or 2 Watts, it also seems capable of transmitting into any load, even a completely mismatched random wire with no tuner. ?It's an SDR that needs to be run from a computer, but I run my HL2 from an older Raspberry Pi. ?I have scripts that send ?out a bunch of beacons on multiple bands in both WSPR and FT8. ?And a sweep of FT8 beacons across multiple bands provides results faster in changing band conditions. ?Since the SDR, WSPR and FT8 software runs on a Raspberry Pi, I found it easier to configure and customize things on the Pi than on the ZachTek (so I sold my ZachTek to Hiroki a few years back).

Re: ZachTeks Summer Sale is on!

I just ordered 3 ZachTek 40-6 version. The 30% sale is thru Monday 7/8 The savings will more than pay for the DHL Express mail. ?I agree with Hiroki for virtually being indestructible. ?I have repaired a couple xmtrs where the line driver IC shorted. ?One had an output shorted to ground and may have been infant mortality very early in use. ?The other was an input shorted to ground issue and had run for almost a year. ?It was located in Nevada and owner thought possible lightning nearby. ?My thoughts were if lightning, other parts would be damaged. ?Only one line failed. The part is cheap but requires Fine Pitch soldering capability. ?Tiny part. ?Harry of ZachTek sent me a 1/2 dozen parts, otherwise I would have to order from parts house. ?Anchor Electronics does not carry that small device. ?Neither Jameco also.

?Take advantage of the sale.

Re: Chelegance MC-750 Clone from Ali Express

I have 3 in use with ZachTek xmtrs on 30, 20 & 15 meters WSPR. ?Just received 3 additional antennas with cost for $29 each. ?They came in 6 days. ?Will be setting up for 17, 10 & 6 meters. ?
The ZachTek xmtrs can handle high SWR. ?The Xmtrs are within 3 ft. of each antenna. ?Running 24/7 and each xmtr is single band with no rest period. ?Each antenna is at full length and counterpoise is not separated for the bands; just laying on ground. ?All 3 antennas are within about 3 ft. each other. ?
Using WSPR.rocks - look at my spots.

ZachTeks Summer Sale is on!

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Here is an opportunity to get a ZachTek WSPR xmtr cheap. I find the ZachTek a best made device I own. I often let it run 24/7 to check the HF condx. I have several times inadvertently transmitted with high SWR but the machine is indestructible.

Chelegance MC-750 Clone from Ali Express

I know you all are anxiously awaiting this review.? ?Well, here it is anyway.?

The antenna arrived today from China.? ?How is it?? Not bad.? It's not an MC-750,? but it didn't cost $180.? It was $27.67, delivered.? ?Here's the picture of what you get. Quality,? not bad, certainly good enough.? ?If the MC-750 is a Cadillac, the clone is certainly a Ford.?

The whip is 5.6 meters long, has double crimping and looks like it will last.? The red mount is very well done.? Take my word for it, you don't want to take it apart, it's well built but not easy to put back together.? ?The stake is a stake and does it's job.

How does it work?? Just as good as the MC-750.? ?I can't hear any difference on a - b switching.? SWR is the same.??

Bottom line, it's a good buy and I? don't see any reason to buy the Chelegance.? ?It sets up in less than 5 minutes and tears down faster.? It's perfect for the Baylands.? ?Cliff this is perfect for the Ship.? Handles 300 Watts.

Questions???

Re: I need some advice making a new 20m dipole antenna

49:1 is good for end fed half waves
9:1 is good for non-resonant end fed wires (aka "random" wire)
4:1 is good for off-center feds
1:1 current baluns, also known as common mode chokes, are a good idea at the feedpoint of dipoles that are coax fed but not always necessary

You can build it in various configurations.?

  • Male BNC for direct attachment to radio
  • Can be built for use on HF bands from 160 m to 10 m
  • Build as a 49:1 Unun, 9:1 Unun, 4:1 Unun or 1:1 Balun - Just add wire to complete your antenna
  • 5W max for high-duty cycle modes, 10W max SSB

I want to build a 20 m dipole. Do I want the 1:1 Balun? I think that's it but I want to be sure.?

Thanks, Joy N6GO
