Re: Would some kind soul give me 6 or so small banana plugs to lunch on Friday? Also can a counterpoise wire be too long?

Joy,

Consider a wing nut instead of a hex nut.? There's more to hold on to, so less chance of being dropped, and better chance to find if if it does fall.?

AND have some spares in you kit!

Do you happen to have an extra 6 or so small banana plugs that you could give me at lunch Friday? I don't know the exact size, but 2mm jumps into my mind. I want to use them on a counterpoise wire. I want to almost permanently connect a spade connector to a nut on the rig and have a short pig tale where I could connect the wire counterpoise with a banana plug, so it's a small banana plug. I'm afraid I will loose the nut on the rig if I keep screwing and unscrewing it to add or remove the counterpoise. Seems like a good idea to me. If it's not a good idea I would also like to know that.?

Also, can you ever have a counterpoise wire that is too long?

I plan to be at the Baylands for lunch and ops, barring a superceding, interfering event

Re: Would some kind soul give me 6 or so small banana plugs to lunch on Friday? Also can a counterpoise wire be too long?

Joy,

What rig is this?? If you are using 1 or 2 counterpoise wires, yes, they can be too long for lowest swr on a particular band if you are not using an atu.? A wire on the ground is optimal around 1/8 wavelength in my experience.? If you are using an atu, it doesn't make as big a difference.

On average ground, counterpoises have about a 50% velocity factor.

I'm sure others will have differing opinions :-)? In chester, I sometimes use verticals on 20 or 40 m, and I have a piece of electrical tape at the halfway point on the counterpoise wires.? On 20m, I fold the counterpoise wire back on itself from the tape mark, and my antenna analyzer shows that this works.? It also reduces common mode currents on your coax.

Re: Qmx transceiver by Qrp Labs

Joy, I would use anything that is resonate on 20m.? I used Chelegance MC-750 and the Chinese copy.? Both full sized 1/4 wave verticals worked very well, less than 1.2:1 swr.

DONT USE ELECRAFT AX1
