Re: New Yaesu QRP rig

Hi Doug et al,

Happy to acknowledge the QRP terminology.? Back when I was active in HF Pack, Ken Chong WB6MLC and I enjoyed pedestrian mobile ops with lightweight (and sometimes heavier) rigs, but not necessarily limited in transmit power, ?Using mainly SSB, we noted the challenge of getting heard with rigs under 100W, especially on the low bands. ?"Medium power" SSB rigs were (and still are) rare.? I hope that the more recent Xiegu G90 rig is selling (and performing) ok.

Dual receivers so true full duplex, like for satellite ops!

Re: New Yaesu QRP rig

Oliver, QRP is 5 Watts.? Hiroki nailed it for the reason the radio is 10W.? We tend to think that every manufacturer designs for the US market.? Not true.? I look forward to seeing it.?

Re: New Yaesu QRP rig

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

The reason Yaesu limits power to 10 watts (this rig can do 10 watts with external ps), I suspect, is that the majority of hams in Japan are restricted to using only 10 watts max. There are more active hams in Japan than in the US and that is Yaesu's ?(and other manufacturers') major market.

keeping cool

Some months ago, there was discussion about coolers.?? That got me to replace my vintage Igloo and can now report on my field tests.

I bought the Yeti 45 liter, hard-sided cooler.? The size has proven good for my uses.

Online there were several other brands, all less expensive.? The key factors behind my decision were:
??? ? I couldn¡¯t find any local stores where I could actually see the other brands.
??? ? There were some similar sized coolers, but they didn¡¯t have wheels and weighed more. Fully loaded with food and ice, these differences are important.
??? ? REI had a membership discount on a full priced item.

Memorial Day weekend, I spent 4 days camping and ate well.

I just returned from 6 days and nights in the Sierras.? The first 2 nights, I had to plan ahead to defrost what I was going to cook for dinner.?? The last evening, the beer was still cold.?? The last morning, while preparing my breakfast burrito, there was still some ice at the bottom of the mostly empty cooler.
