Re: Where do you get wire??

Cliff, we went to Jameco during the pandemic to get something they should have had it stock. When we walked in, it was apparent they didn't really have much of any inventory to see in the "store". Everything was on line so we walked out empty handed and disappointed. Things may have changed now......or not. I would give them a call and ask what they have inventory wise for "walk ins".

Jameco still has willcall, but they state a $50 minimum.? Recently I met the $50 minimum and the lady working at the desk, said that she would place a order for around $35 if I did it in person.? (That unfortunately is a lot of wire).? They also still have the miscellaneous kits and parts for sale in the lobby.

Re: Where do you get wire??

1. Become a member of freecycle.org and place a "wanted" post with some specifics.

2. Your local Home Depot may have spool remnants they will sell at a discount (make an offer).

3. Drop by your local electric supply store and inquire re. used / surplus wire.

4. Best bet IMO is any swap meet (as was mentioned) plus garage/estate sales.

Amazon. ? ?Bntechgo silicone. ? ?Cheap, stranded, multiple length, gauge and color options. ? ??

If I want something *right now* I look for zip wire in the audio section of the hardware store bur that's probably heavier than you want. ?

I just received a message from Alex Grimberg's daughter that Alex, PY1AHD, died of cancer a few months ago.

Alex, of course, is the inventor of the first commercially successful magnetic loop antenna, the AlexLoop. Many of us in this group have met him in person. He was a regular presence in Pacificon and HamVention . He once came to the Baylands and demonstrated and operated his AlexLoop and FT817. Some of us may recall a dinner with him when Pacificon was held in Silicon Valley.
