Power Supply

Can anyone recommend a low noise switching supply for powering an IC7300?

Re: Interest video about arrl

The magazines are a sore point for me.? Especially losing QEX.? I simply can not read it online, need that paper copy to see the schematics etc.

Trust.? Never conferred.? Difficult to earn and retain.? So easily destroyed...? And yet, there they are.

On another note.? ?Do you think a digital magazine only membership to 4 magazines is worth $59.? And can we trust them to keep the bargain?? Their track record is not good after what they did in December to the 3 year subscribers.?

Re: Interest video about arrl

In the video he covers a little of the vulnerability.? Bottom line: ARRL's set up was primitive, naive, no defense at all, no backups, or where there were online backups they were encrypted and not returned after paying the ransom!? Couldn't possibly get worse!? They are still reconstructing the accounting data!? Sheesh.

Sad that this happened to ARRL.

Doug, he didn't say anything negative, he correctly assessed that her top level design and engineering skills do not translate to the organizational and broad technical skills required for modern IT and DevOps.

The CEO assigning that to her because "it's computers" is like me calling you, hey you're from Detroit, fix my car!

Friday

I will not be at the Baylands for lunch or for ops.
But I do plan to attend FARS's home-brew night and to show a few things I built this past year.

Not in public view, there are a lot of bad feelings between certain league officials.? When someone expresses negative opinions, they are not telling the whole story.

Aeronauticly speaking, anything can happen in the Rockies and usually does. ?Hopefully your flight home will be less memorable.

As a few of you know I am in Yellowstone National Park for a week. We arrived Tuesday night and had two flights that were memorable, and not in a good way.?

?

The flight to Salt Lake City started out fine until I heard someone yelling ¡°Larry Larry, Larry, Wake Up Wake Up!¡± I couldn¡¯t tell where the shouting was coming from but soon a woman pressed the flight attendant button and someone came to assist her. The man, I¡¯m guessing Larry, was sitting in his seat and unresponsive to the yelling and punching of him. Either the wife or the flight attendant said ¡°Is he dead?¡± Well, I guess Larry heard that and suddenly woke up. His wife said he had taken a dramamine before the flight and it had made him sleepy. So everything turned out find for Larry.

On the second leg of the flight to Billings we were warned of a bumpy ride so we had our seat belts on for almost the entire flight. About 20 mins before landing the captain made an announcement that there might see more turbulence and asked the flight crew to take their seats. I didn¡¯t really think anything of it until we hit a huge pocket of air and suddenly there was a tremendous boom and the plane made a steep dive down and a roll to the left¡¡kind of like a roller coaster that I never wanted to ride. The passengers were all strapped in, some more tightly than others and I could see people coming up out of their seats as the plane did it¡¯s ¡°dive and roll¡± motion. No-one was thrown out of their seats, thankfully. This happened twice. We landed safely and everything was good. I think Larry would have woken up with the dive and roll on this flight.

?

On a better note. The friend¡¯s house I am staying at is in Gardiner, MT just outside of Yellowstone park. It¡¯s up on a hill looking? the town and the altitude is about 5700 ft. I was able to park the car on a roll up mast holder my husband built and operate right from the driveway very close to the down slope of the mountain their house is on. I think today may be the only day I will be able to operate so I did it even though it rained, no thunder, all day.? I was able to chase a lot of parks on the air activators in PA, NM, CO, TN, AZ, MN,MA,WI,I,CT,MI,MS. Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be much better for the remainder of our stay. I hope to go to the Bear Tooth Highway which is just a few miles from the other house I will be staying at outside of Yellowstone. We had a winter weather warning last night and the Bear Tooth highway was closed but it should be opened soon. I plan to use the drive on mast board again on a pullout. The altitude is 9,947 ft and I have a tee shirt I brought to prove it. I did not bring oxygen with me, but I will have bear spay¡..But it¡¯s so high the bears don¡¯t even go there.?

?

PS. I was able to get a few more POTA stations when I operated this morning, NY, NC, FL AZ,OH, and Ontario Canada. Not sure I¡¯ll be able to operate much more.? Here is a couple of photos of where I was operating from.?

You can buy a clone of the MC-750 for $109 from Aliexpress.? ?It even includes the bag.? Interesting that Thomas doesn't mention that.? Could it be because he got a free MC-750?????

Re: Ops Today

I biked from Cooley Landing to our usual Baylands site in about 17 mins. (each way), then did my usual tour. There were a few other bikers and walkers; no moonlight runners (yet). Very beautiful day!

Re: : Get Paid for Your ARRL Activities!

ARRL sent message that there is a new program to keep 65+ people active.? Get paid a bonus from being active ham.

Well I tried to sign up and :

Sorry. Grouper is not yet available through your health plan.

So apparently this depends on your medical plan, some plans pay for gym memberships, some don't

Re: Ops Today

Oliver and I wanted to test out microwave gear today.? When we encountered the road block, we headed south ended up at MT View Shoreline.? Past the amphitheater and the guard house.? Parking lot on right labeled "Kite Flying" "General Use Area".

There were some hills and trees that blocked the wind a little.? We could see the particular peaks we wanted to see.

Oliver is now on his way south.? Saturday I will go to Mt. Vaca and Sunday Diablo.? Will see if we can contact each other.? And assorted other hams this weekend.

Re: Operating outside of Yellowstone

We switched houses and we are not just outside the park at the East entrance. I tried to operate from the parking area this morning but no luck. As Hiroki had suggested I set up on the porch that didn't have an overhang of the roof. We are at about 7500". Much better luck today. NH, Ontario Canada, MN, NE, IN, NC,AZ, GA,IL and WI. The only reason I stopped was the wind was getting a little strong.?
