Win 11 and QMX

Ken Kirkley

I’ve successfully updated my qmx software, but WSJTX does not find the qmx audio files for input and output. When I plug in the USB-C cable windows says USB device not recognized. I have QMX in digital mode as manual says. What am I missing?

I find with W11 if I plug the USB lead in to the radio and computer and then turn on the QMX it will be Ok. ?Otherwise as you say W11 usually reports a malfunction.

This has been the situation since the first QDX and W10, maybe all Windows versions.
Hans does not know why but it is regularly reported.
I wonder if the is sufficient warning in the manuals?

Many machines _still_ have hardware issues with their USB 3.x ports (blue plastic/non-black plastic) - don't start panicking until you have tried using one of the USB2.0 ports on Your machine (black plastic).

Most machines will have at least 1 of these ports, usually to support 'legacy USB' devices like Mice and Keyboards in situations where windows cannot fully start. Give it a try, it might be more tolerant.

Thanks y’all. I’m traveling until late Sunday. I’ll try these suggestions after I return home.?

Which version of the PCB are you using? If it's v1 you may have to add 5.1k resistors to a couple of the USB C pins.? There is a post on it somewhere.

Tim,

Are you saying you can pull out a QMX USB plug, put it straight back in and Windows sees it instantly?

I agree, some computers need you to select a particular USB socket to get something to work but I've never known a QDX (or QMX?) to renumerate on a Windows PC without cycling the power to it.

I have found that you need to close the WSJT-X software and turn off the QMX, then turn on the QMX and restart WSJT-X.? The USB cable can stay plugged in.

It seems WSJT-X does an "inventory" of the available devices when it first starts up.? If it doesn't "see" the device, at that time, it doesn't display it.

I might be completely wrong on this, so your mileage may vary.

The essential thing is the power cycle.
I never unplug my QDXs, always have to power cycle them after a reboot.

There is something wrong with Hans' firmware, In Windows QDX/QMX do not behave like other USB devices.

It's a bug in the PORTC register handling.

I don’t understand why…but I decided to use a USB-C to USB-A adapter to connect to the laptop. All immediately worked!!! If I plug the USB-C cable into the USB-C port on the laptop it doesn’t work. ???♂????

There is a modification to add two IIRC 5.2k resistors to the USB connector to address this.
