Weak receive on QMX version 1 - New build

I finally got around to building the version one QMX I purchased last year at FDIM.? The build went well and I thought I has no problems, but it appears to be weak on receive.

I have 4.95+ watts out on all five bands.? So it appears the transmit side is doing well.

On receive I have been able to make contacts using FT8 mode, but on CW receive I can barely hear anything.? Anything I do hear is weak on the QDX,? but strong on a nearby receiver.

Everything else seems to be working just fine.

My firmware version is 1.00_014.

The serial number of this unit is #62 so it was a very early unit purchased from Hans at QRP vendor night at FDIM.

Anyone have an Idea where the problem may be with my receive problem?

Have you looked at the sweeps to see how they look?

Cliff,

Yes, I recently went through the RF sweeps on all of the bands and they don't look anything close to what's in the operation manual.? I just rewound L401 because it looked like I had 20 turns at the 19 turn mark.? That made no difference in how the sweeps looked.? Still not hearing much of anything.? The sweeps don't show a real well defined peak anywhere.? They seem to be all over the display.

Cliff,

After closer inspection I found a bad connection on on of the IC's.? Touched that up and the receive came alive so all seems to be working well with plenty of volume.? The only issue I have now is flaky encoders on both the volume and tuning.? They are working, but seem to not be as stable as they should be.

Overall, the QMX is usable now.

Thanks,

Gary,

Glad to hear of the success. Have you done the sweeps after the fix? The should look similar to the ones in the Operation manual. Also lots of examples - good and bad, on this mail list.

Cliff,

Yes, the sweeps look much closer to what is shown in the manual.? All are in an acceptable area on the display.? Glad the fix was this easy.

I would just try flowing the solder around the encoders to see if that helps.?
On my qcx-mini they are fine on my qmx the right vfo encoder does at times miss the fact that I'm turning it but eventually catches up. I put this down to software as opposed to hardware?
