SDR with the QMX

Hello, I am interested in enabling the IQ and displaying the information on my PC. I know it's possible but I have never attempted it.?

  1. What SDR software should I try (I run both Windows & Linux)
  2. Has anyone done this? Please share your experience
  3. Is it simply a matter of enabling IQ in the Digi menu and pointing to the sound card from something like SDRPlay?
Thanks in advance!

Hello Steve

Try SDR++ and select Audio as source. It is a multi-platform open source project. Binaries are available for both Linux and Windows (and even Android!).

Hi Steve,

I've read somewhere about it (here or other groups.io) but for the life of me, I can't find that resource again. But I've tried it and can describe the process:
- I use SDR Console v3.2 (I have an SDRPlay), I didn't try with other software
- in the Radio selection screen, click "Definitions", then Search->Softrock->Xtal
- In the Frequency field, enter 12000 (12 KHz), in the Default Soundcard select Digital Audio Interface (QMX transceiver) and click OK. If asked, click Add
- click Save, and now you should have a new entry in the radio list from the Select Radio dialog. Select it, then in Bandwidth combo choose 48k (doesn't seem to matter), and in Soundcard combo check that the QMX soundcard is selected
- click Start, and enjoy - you can't seem to change the QMX freq. with SDR Console cursor, but in all honesty, I didn't bother too much

The audio seems to be quite good, to my ears at least!

Regards,

Sorry, forgot to say: first, you must enable I/Q in the QMX System Config menu. I recomend that you remove and unplug your headphones from QMX before you do that :-)

Steve,

My use of HDSDR and the QDX, QMX will be the same.

Other software may be used, a soundcard input must be featured and CAT makes it work together.

might help:-)

I tried using the IQ enabled output into SDR Console as Adrian YO3GFH described.? The strange thing is that although I entered the 12 Khz offset into the Softrock Xtal definition in SDR console I'm seeing a 12 Khz shift in the signals displayed in SDR Console compared to the dial frequency on the QMX.? Changing the offset in the Xtal definition seems to make no difference at all?

IIRC, from QDX FW V1.04? and onward to QMX, when IQ mode is selected *raw data* from the stereo ADC is sent to the PC sound card via USB.

Raw data...no demodulation, and no conversion to a 12KHz IF.?

As I recall, Hans eliminated the 12KHz IF conversion only in IQ mode as it was creating confusion for users of SDR applications.

Chris,

But did he describe it fully? I see " you can't seem to change the QMX freq. with SDR Console cursor, but in all honesty, I didn't bother too much"

The QMX with HDSDR should work just like the QDX

Steve -
I use CubicSDR on linux with an RTL-SDR and it was the easiest to use of the various apps I tried.
