Release of version 2.0 of ABS solution for QMX+ (Automatic internal antenna tuner, internal battery and internal speaker with audio amp) #PSU #QMXplus #audio #ABS #ATU

Hi,
?
I have released a version 2 of ABS solution. Please refer to the readme front page file at the git repository for full details and release notes:
?
The release includes new PCB fabrication files, BOM and detailed build instructions.
?
This release took into consideration lessons learned and a feedback from first group buy participants fearlessly organized by Cal (AD8Q) and Stan (KC7XE).

Guys,
If there's a second group buy for Sardar's version 2 of the ABS, I'm in for a kit.

Thanks, Sardar, for your excellence. Thanks, Stan and Cal for your work in getting this to a "group buy", if you choose to do it again.

73, Larry K3PEG

Excellent update.? It looks like all the minor issues I had are resolved.? I spent a lot of time "shaving" things to get everything to fit in the box.? Also thanks for the note about the placement of the plug from the front button.? That also applies to the previous version and took a while to discover.? I did install a socket in the back for battery access.? I can plug in a meter from my radio control parts to check each cell voltage and charge and balance as needed.? Since installing matched batteries no problems.? I'll order another QMX+ to prepare for the version 2 tuner.

Thanks to all, Vilnis KC8AAC

If there's a second group buy for Sardar's version 2 of the ABS, I'm in for a kit also. I have my QMX+ kit next in line for assembly. I'm currently working on a QMX mid band kit. I also just ordered an audio amp and speaker for my QMX.

Could you describe the improvements you made in v2?? I have a V1 and a V2 coming.

Please ad my name and call to the list for a potential second group buy.? Thanks .

I am also interested in a group buy should one happen.

I am also interested in the Group Buy and Parts kit, even though I have Ver. 1,2.

Fellow hams,
?
Couple of updates.
?
1. To ease the access to the GitHub repository I made a URL forwarding: .
?
2. I made a simulation of JLCPCB order to see what the most unoptimized cost could look like (no coupons, no large order discounts). Simulation was per minimum possible 5 set of PCB order.
?
So, the total with all shipment/taxes per build comes to around 111$-115$. Which is 10$ higher than per V1.2 build. Which is excellent considering 6-Layer V2 ATU PCB with Electrolyses Nickel Infused Gold plates (ENIG) and other V2 improvements. While 6-Layer PCB has increased the cost, the reductions comes from multiple sources, like JLCPCB's own recent reduction of 6-Layer PCB's, schematic simplification of ABS V2 (elimination of ATMEGA), most of audio amplifier components are SMD's. So, at the end cost balances itself.

Sardar,
Excellent work!

I'm in for the mod with rear panel SMA connectors for the ATU.

So what's the next step? ?I am ready to provide charge card info , but when and how will ?I hear about doing this?
Stan Has confirmed to me via direct personal ?email that I am on the list. ? Can I anticipate another email from Stan?
?
My guess i is that most of us are like kids before Christmas on this. I know I am. ??
Thanks for all the hard work which will round out the features of this great radio! ? I appreciate all the effort.
?
Regards Richard KC1TXA

Richard,
?
Little context of what is going on.
?
On the photo below are boxes with prototype PCB's for this project from JLCPCB. In my son's bedroom. 90% of those are revisions that either did not work or were inferior.
?
I have released the V2 only after I got (finally!) the revision that worked, built, assembled and tested it myself.
?
I have mailed PCB's to Stan and Cal to do their own independent tests. The goal is to:
?
1. Make sure that ABS V2 works at least at the same level as V1.2, not worse;
2. Validate improvements over V1.2 we have been working so hard for past two months. I claimed those in V2 release notes. They will have to validate my claims :)
?
I would let Stan and Cal to do their tests on their own pace, quietly and relaxed. At the end we do not want anyone else to collect boxes in their home like in the photo :)
?
Then, it will be up to them to decide whether they want to organize another group buy or not. They might have many personal reasons to consider.
?
The other point I want to emphasize is that there is no secret souse or proprietary information to organize the group buy. All information is in GitHub. The only requirements (not by me but by JLCPCB) is that minimum group size should be 5.
?
As Stan and Cal stepped in and enjoyed organizing the first group buy - anyone else can do that, the era no harm of doing more than one at the same time besides few $ savings per set.

This is a really cool project. Just finished my QMX+ build a few days ago and I'd be interested in any upcoming group buy.

If there is a group buy, how much would shipping/import fee to Europe (8041 Graz, Austria) be?

USPS Shipping fee is US$50.55 to Austria.? I'm not sure if there is any customs fee; I think not, but maybe some.
But that is high enough that it negates the savings of a group-buy, so it would likely be more cost effective to order items directly.
Unless what you value is the convenience...
Stan
