QRC WSPR Beacon Mode Decode Issue

开云体育

Hi All,

I have been reviewing decoding issues threads here as I just completed my QCX transceiver? and installed? firmware 1.0.0d.? The little rig checks out fine except for WSPR beacon mode.

Basically,I am seeing issues with stations not being able to decode? beacon frames.? Only a couple of stations can decode the signal when I've tested on air.? When using my Ultimate 3 WSPR transmitter (300mw), I get over a dozen stations that are decoding.

I set up a local receiver and attempted to decode the WSPR signal from the QCX xcvr.? I had very little luck and only able to decode once or twice.? I then connected the GPS module to see if it changed the symptoms which it did not.

I decided to look at the signals with "Argo" to see how the shifts look, see below for results.?

What controls WSPR shifts?? I assume that shift control is in software and hardware does not come into play, is that a correct assumption? Has anyone else looked at the WSPR signals??

Chris,

That looks about right although the CQX has those long unshifted lines. Looks strange, is it like that on every transmission?
The shift is all in the firmware.

Also I got the similar result with ARGO as blow.
Sending U3 at 7040080Hz -> JA9MAT PM86 30 and QCX at 7040050Hz-> JA9MAT PM86 33.

1) U3

2) QCX

I hope it's Just a information for fixing this issue.

Hi guys

I see, and I will investigate with highest priority, and let you know the outcome.?

Thanks Hans-san for quick reply.
Waiting for your investigation.

Hi all

I investigated this issue. I discovered a memory corruption which has the potential to corrupt WSPR tones in the second half of the transmission only. The first half is fine (first 84 symbols of the 162, to be precise). WSPR includes a lot of redundancy and forward error correction techniques which is why it can withstand QRM. This also means that decodes are possible even if some symbols have been corrupted. Which is why this issue escaped detection until now.?

I have corrected this issue and run some tests here. I already emailed Hidehiko-san a test .hex file. If anyone else would like to test this please could you email me privately, and I will send you the .hex file for testing.

Hans-san,
I've tested by AGRO and found the difference as below;

It seems OK!
And I will test the WSPR transmission tonight and estimate the test firmware.

Thanks again.

I'm testing WSPR transmission on 40m. The result is as blow.

I think it works!

Thanks Hans-san.

Hello all,

Hans kindly sent my the new firmware as well.? Up to now I saw 2-3 spots per transmisson on 20m when I transmitted with 5 watts. With 1 watt I received almost no reports. With the new firmware I see plenty of spots even with 1 watt (see below).

Thanks for the great work to Hans!

Great! Thanks all! Karsten, Hidehiko-san and Bob all say it works... So it looks good. Anyone else who wants the beta .hex can still email me got a copy.

Good morning Hans

I have just bought an update to the chip which is 100.d

As I am particularly interested in using the rig with WSPR so I would like to try and reprogram the original chip once I have 100.d working.

Could I thus take up your offer of the latest .hex code with the WSPR working well ?

BTW thanks for all your efforts and no rush to reply to me as my shack is storing out kitchen which completes its refit all being well Wednesday.

Kind regards Charles. De G4VSZ
