#qmx #SSB Firmware beta 1_01_000 release #qmx #ssb

Hi all

Beta firmware 1_01_000 is now available for the brave to try:

That page has a long description of all the new features and changes.?

Let's keep feedback in this thread, so that if there are non-interested parties they can just click the Mute link?and not see it anymore.?

Hi all

Attempting to be the first post on my own thread.... with great excitement I managed to send three Winlink emails using my Pi400 computer and QMX+ in USB mode.?

I installed the new beta?on my "reference" QMX+ which runs with a Pi400. After the installation I was able to have a JS8 QSO on 27.245 MHz to Germany in Digi mode so I know that Digi all still works as it used to.?

For Winlink I installed Pat and Peter AI7YN's ardopcf program. With QMX+ in USB mode, connected to my Pi400. I ran about 3W PEP on 20m to connect to the LZ3CB RMS server which is my closest server at 635km distant. I had previously tried to connect to LZ3CB - same radio, same antenna, same power - but with Digi mode (FSK only) and I tried for hours and hours, but failed. This time the connection went through immediately and sent three emails which were in my Outbox. I believe that a non-FSK connection packet is used which could work at close range but was perhaps harder for the remote station to understand. So that was exciting and a first for me! See attached photos.?

Awesome news Hans, thanks for all the hard work! ?Can’t wait to try it out.?

Congrats Hans!

Congrats! Great accomplishment :-)

Wow, Congrats! Thank you Hans.
?
Too bad the weekend is a little far, I'll have to wait to play with it ;-)

Well done Hans! Not an SSB op here, but I am very happy to see the Beta SSB firmware finally out, as I know how much effort you have put into it. I am sure you will get plenty of good feedback from other folks here.

Hans,?
Congratulations, a very welcome addition to an already incredible transceiver.
Looking forward to hearing operators experiences.
It's been truly inspiring.

Many thanks,

?
Many thanks Hans,
?
I thought I would give it a go (despite being CW only operator), some initial observations:
?
Using putty on Linux to tell QMX+ to go into bootloader, mounting the USB "disk" and then copying firmware was faultless.
?
Now the device confirms new firmware on switch on.
?
(1) Display contrast seems to be different ( harder to read ) - backlight is on.
(2) Some flickering on the second line of text I have not noticed before - horizontal bars on and off across the display ( CW decoder on RX is off )?

I have configured for SSB via the USB and may report further.
?
Thanks for all you do.

Hans,
?
Thank you for your hard work.? I am looking forward to testing SSB on the QMX+.

Update.
I routed my microphones to the QMX to try the SSB but may have to wire up a PTT.
I expected FLRIG to be able to key the PTT as it does on CW and DiGi but apparently not.
Leaving aside that RLRIG does not support the SSB mode ( yet) ...
- is there a mode code for it support on QMX CAT yet?
- should the PTT CAT command work on SSB?

Cheers

Hi Simon

The CAT commands in QMX should work with SSB. The mode number for USB is 2 and for LSB is 1 (for use with the MD command).?

FW command will return?the correct name of the filter bandwidth you chose for SSB.?

TX; and RX; should put it into transmit and receive, respectively.?

Congratulations, Hans. SSB has been a long time in preparation, and I have been keeping my fingers crossed for so long that tbey risk being permanently bent. I will download the software tonight.?

Congratulations on going for the gusto with a public release!

SSB isn't my thing (so far), but I'm delighted to see this terrific radio continuing to grow in its capacities. And, Hans, looking forward to seeing you find yourself free to pursue other firmware updates that inspire you!

Hi Hans,
?
great to have the SSB firmware now!
?
There might be a little bug in the calibration.
If you go straight to the calibration menu via putty and press "R" nothing happens.
"O" works as it should and if you go to another view with "+" also the "R" starts the calibration.
So it's just not reacting to "R" on the initial calibration screen.

Thanks Evan

I fixed the typo...?

Many thanks - I noted that on the "Known issues" section (copy and pasted your sentences exactly, I hope that's OK by you) and I will fix it as soon as I can. Since 160m band Receive is not yet working well, and since calibrating all 12 bands takes a long time, for my development purposes I was taking shortcuts by just enabling 60m and 40m (setting other band names to zero to skip them). So I guess I failed to notice this issue!?

Awesome, I will wait for the stable version :) I'm in no hurry.

Hi Hans,
?
I'm excited to try the new firmware and I'm just reading your documentation. Thank you for your many hours on this.
?
In the microphone test section, the image shows the Peak Level as the bottom row, but the 2nd bullet point describes the Current Peak Level as the top row.
