QMX SSB : Does a Baofeng Micro works ok ?

Hi, I tried to use a standard Baofeng micro , the one with a small loudspeaker inside that is not usable with QMX.
I have done the easy mods to make possible using this mike with the QMX. No a big issue ...
Tried also the Microphone Test tool in the QMX sw, and the mike seems ok using only 40 db for gain.
BUT, if I listen with another radio the modulation is very bad .. !! Possibly the two radio too close ??
Unfortunatly, if I talk ,does not seem to exit any RF or just a little bit, from the QMX ( I have a swr/wattmeter in line..).
In CW all is ok, in SSB Baofeng micro seems no good. Have you tried the Baofeng Micro ? I guess every body owns one of
this mike that why I am asking.?

I tried a Baofeng speaker mic with mine and the audio quality is not very good. It is usable but to me it doesn¡¯t sound good.
?
I bought mic kit from QRPGuys and am very happy with it.

Don.

I am using a Retevis HK008 that I was using for TruSDX previously. It has an integrated speaker that sounds very good.
?
I had to cut and rewire the plug. I don't know how good it sounds on the air, but I made already a bunch of ssb contacts with 5w and no one complained about the audio.

Angelo,
There are a number of different factories that produce microphones for Baofengs.? I have bought 6 of them so far and everyone is made differently. I had one that didn't work at all on the QMX, so I got the mic element from DigiKey that Hans mentioned on the QRP Labs website, and replaced the one in the Baofeng mic with it. I found that another Baofeng mic worked just as well as that mic element from DigiKey. I did have to cut off the connector and rewire a new stereo connector, so the ring to ground is the mic connection, and the tip to ground is the PTT connection. I just isolated the speaker wires and I'm not using the speaker. It is only 8 ohms anyway and the QMXs work better with at least 32 ohms.

Good advice.
?
I have and have had a whole bunch of Baofeng branded / Baofeng "style" hand mics
(e.g. generic no name brand K type connector things), they mostly work fine but
some of them do use very poor quality electrect mic capsules.
?
These poor quality capsules usually result in muffled audio (lack of HF response
and sound like you've put last weeks socks over the mic) ;-)
?
Cure is to replace the capsule for a few cents if you are unfortunate to have one.
?
Oddly enough, the worst offender of late is a Baofeng branded hand mic in the style
below (they all seem to have the crappy capsules).

On some of the old Retevis and Baofeng mics, the (physical) mic port is actually sealed leading to muffled audio.
Drilling a small hole in front of the element solves it and transmitted audio becomes clear.
You might check that before replacing the mic element.

HI Mike,
?
Yeah I've often heard of this over the years, but oddly enough never seen
it myself. (Yeah, got a truck load of HT's and accessories to satisfy my fetish) ;-)
?
As you say, worth checking though just in case.

I? just used the Baofeng as in the picture above this message ...! No joy at all ...
I have also tried to use another electrect bought from AliExpress ..same story.
It seems the micro try to send some SSB signal (I can hear on my ic7610 the modulation ...) but watching the needle?
of my swr/wattmeter .. it behaves very strangely ...? If I shout the needle on 20 mt moves a lot , but If I speak , became dead ..?
On 40 meter even if I shout the needle moves a bit but no movement when speaking ...
Something seems change if I modify in the menu SSB item Max Gain (default =10) and put at 70 .. seems to
move a bit more .. but none seems to listen to my signal..
Could you kindly tell me ALL the necessary parameters you use to send an SSB signal on the QMX ?
I have others electret but I do not know if worth while .. Tried to buy the proper one on DG Key
?
So sad ,,, :o(
