QMX+ microphone ideas

I recently purchased this microphone kit from Pacific Antennas for $15.? The kit was easy to build and seems to work ok with the QMX+ usng a MIC Gain set at 50.? Anyway I made my first SSB contact today on 10m so I'm satisfied.? I've enjoyed reading about what others are trying and look forward experimenting some more.

Hi les,
?
That is the same mic, (I have 4 of them), I use on all of my Bitxs and my QMX+. I always get good audio reports. I know they are not the most attractive looking mics around but they do work.

Good info! I just ordered two.?

Interesting,?
Thats the same as the one from QRP Guys.

I wonted to be able to use a generic electret capsule.? More specifically, I wanted to make use of my gaming headset with built in mic.
So, I when down the rout of using a inexpensive mic preamp module, MAX9814. The module in fact comes with a mic capsule soldered on the board. I removed the capsule and wired it up to my headset mic and wired in a foot switch for PTT for hands free operation.

My QMX+ mic gain is set at 35 and getting good results. This with default calibration settings.

Cheers.

So, I also purchased that mic and built it, but I have some odd things going on. My setup is the QMX+, and I am using an Emtech Zmatch tuner and a 99' doublet (fed with a portion of 300 ohm LL, then coax through a 1:1 balun). The antenna is designed to have a tunerless match in the CW portion of 20, but the tuner is needed in the SSB portion.
?
What I notice is this... when I tune the antenna using the tune function in the QMX+ menu system, I easily get a good match. When I transmit CW, no problem at all. But when I hook up the Pacific Antennas mic that I built, and speak into it, the tune goes bad. I see a higher than expected SWR on the QMX+ display, and I also see the tuning LED on the Z-match light up on peaks.
?
I put a 1:1 choke in line at the place where the coax enters my shack. I also tried wrapping the cord of the mic around a toroid 6 or 7 times. Neither changed the situation much, if at all.
?
Am I dealing with some sort of RF feedback? Am I dealing with an incorrectly constructed mic? A problem with my QMX+. I am trying to be extra careful... because I believe when I was rather randomly playing around with the SSB was when I blew my finals. They've been replaced, and still going strong. But I want to move forward carefully to retain my ability to run CW at least LOL...
?
Any thoughts what people would try to troubleshoot this?

Thanks everyone,

Hi Joel.
?
I'm wiring up my Pacific Antenna mic now.? The manual says that the bare wire is ground, but there is no bare wire :-)
?
Mr. Ohm Meter says:
RED = TIP and I understand that TIP is PTT.
WHITE = RING and I understand that RING is MIC
YELLOW = SLEEVE, which of course is GROUND.
?
Does that sound about right?

Best,
