QMX Feature Request #building #qmx #QMXplus

Gents,
Just finished build of QMX+.? Everything works perfectly from first power-up.? Glad I watched Hans' video. The 6-layer board really does take a lot of heat to solder properly.
Power is a little low - about 3W on most bands, compared to 4W from my QMX but that doesn't make much difference.
?
One feature would be handy...? I find that the QMX goes into SWR protection before my ATU10 has a chance to tune.? I have to manually turn off protection when I want to tune a new antenna and/or band.? How about when turning keyer speed to zero, in addition to going to straight key, set power to 50% and turn off SWR protection.?

Be careful with the ATU-10. ( Or other latching type ATUs that don't have circuitry to limit the SWR seen by the transmitter).?
High spikes can feedback to the power transistors.

Using the 'Tune' function as you mention, at the 50% setting that's only 1/4 of the power out and from what I can tell from other posts, that may not be enough for the ATU to operate correctly.?

I'd recommend searching on the group message for ATU 10 and read through a bunch of them.

I miss the function to give the band signal as a voltage to the PTT output as well.
Either Icom - 0...8V or Xiegu 230 mV ... 2300 mV.
Each band has its own voltage.
Then the frequency could be given to the antenna tuner without having to transmit.

I tune my ATU-10 in the following process
?
1. Menu
2. turn rigth knob three clicks to Hardware tests
3. Select - short click with left button to Tune SWR
4. Select again - frequency and band is displayed
5. Select again - to see SWR and send about 1W to tune ATU-10
6. Exit - three short clicks with left button
?
After few tries you can do it very quickly.

Greg,
I own two ATU10's, one of which is on my QDX, running JS8Call?24/7 into a crap antenna. The other is on my QMX (not the plus) and so far works FB.??
I would hate to discover a problem by burning out the final transistors, though.? Which is why I want an alternative to running full power with SWR protection off when I tune.??

Marek,
Thanks for the suggestion.? That's a lot of clicking and twisting, though.? I am still hoping Hans will consider making those settings available when Keyer=0. (And not 50% as I suggested, but tune power as set in the menu.)

Hi Glen,
The QMX remembers the last menu that was selected so once you've used the Tune SWR function once, it only takes three clicks to get back into it and have it running - hardly time-consuming!? Even selecting the function for the first time only takes a second or two which is not exactly a burden.?
?
There are those that would like the power output to remain at 100% when the keyer speed is set to 0 so a possible compromise would be to have an option somewhere in the configuration menus to select between full power and "Tune" power when the keyer speed is set to zero.?

Setting the keyer speed to 0 is a useful setting for operating. I'd hate to see it be replaced with the tune mode.?
?
Hans - what about this. Keep turning the knob to the left and after 0 it goes to the tune mode. Quick to access. Almost a logical place to find it. Doesn't overload an existing, useful setting.?

"Keep turning the knob to the left and after 0 it goes to the tune mode. Quick to access"

I like it! Would be great way to access tune mode.?

So far, I have used QDX on a Raspberry computer via remote desktop.
At first I didn't have a microPA50 and the band changed with the ATU100 without intervention.
If I change the band with the amplifier, the microPA50 must be reset.
Now I also have QMX+, but with that I have to go to the radio station to change the band.
In order to tune the antenna, I have to navigate through the radio station menus.
It would be nice to be able to tell the amplifier and antenna tuner with voltage what band they are working on.
Another option for tuning the antenna is a remote controllable 6db 100W attenuator between microPA50 and ATU100.

Sure, why not! I think it's a useful request. I added it to my list.?

hi
BETTER:
push the tuning knob and hold till it switches to tune mode :)

Not better, debatable. Pushing?and holding the tune knob has an existing function... The proposed function on the speed is better because it does not involve any debate!

sorry I did only tested on digi mode :(

I have another feature request.
I'd like the ability to set a "Custom USB Name" like you added to the configuration menu in the QDX.
Hopefully that isn't too difficult.
I have 4 QMX variants that I operate remotely and it can be chore to determine which is which sometimes.?
Thanks for all your fantastic work, Hans!!

Yes this is quite easy to do and I have it on my list already.??

I seem to recall a while back, discussion regarding the ability to export and import configuration files.
With 4 QMXs, 6 QDXs and all of the associated configuration settings, it would be quite nice to be able to keep a text copy of my "standard" configuration settings.
Even if it is as basic as doing a "show config" that can be screen scraped and copied from Putty, modified, and then pasted back in with a "config x" command.
Is this on your roadmap?
PS. no pressure and not asking for an estimated delivery date. :-)

Hi Randy

Yes, a way of loading and saving settings is still on my ToDo list.?
