QMX and ESD

Occasionally I reach for a knob on my QMX and get an ESD event from incompatibility between office chair and jacket.? After re-powering it works fine.? Wondering if anyone else experiences this.? The path appears to be through the encoder.? No harm no foul :-). Video attached of symptoms.

There are some good fabric /plastic anti static sprays - ? Had that with a new radio room chair and one spray on chair and carpet lasted 2 years so far?

I finally had enough with the ESD upsets when touching the knobs.? On the last occasion I lost my memory settings due to to a reset.? ?Today I worked out a solution.? I cut a piece of copper foil and punched holes in it to fit under the encoder nuts and around the push buttons and microphone.? ?I insulated around the circuit board areas with black electrical tape on the edges.? ?I would have used Kapton tape but do not have any in my supplies.? ?I originally tried grounding the foil by soldering to the BNC connector but realized that it would block the encoder board from passing through the display board opening.? I soldered a wire from the foil to the power input ground.? ?Put on my fleece jacket, rubbed it round on the chair and touched the knobs a bunch of times.? No upsets.? ?It wouldbe a good design upgrade to put a surface ground layer on the encoder board that the mounting nuts can make contact with and include a path to system ground.
