QCX 3D print

Hi?Torbjorn,

I'll send what I've got direct.

73,

Dave

Hi Dave,

It seems from the picture that you have a 3D model of the QCX itself. Could you share it, or point me to the source? I am planning a QCX case with built-in paddles and GPS, if time permits.

Torbjorn, LA4ZCA

Hi Kent - let me check it out.? I'm using Cura 3.0.1 - but have been looking to bite the bullet and upgrade.

I'll try to get back to you in the next day but have some domestics to sort out.

Dave

I'm having an issue with the "qcx_case_top_back.stl" and "qcx_case_bottom.stl".? Neither of these show or print standoffs.? Maybe it's an issue with Cura 3.1 that I'm using?? Again, I'm sorry if I'm missing something simple.? I'm still pretty new to this.? Thank you!

Hi Mike, you HAVE read the caveat that I haven't printed this version yet - although it looks fine in an assembled model with my board reference model.

For the short case you need:

1 off?qcx_case_bottom_shortDRAFT.stl
1 off?qcx_case_top_back_shortDRAFT.stl
1 off?qcx_case_top_frontV2.stl
2 off?qcx_case_tact.stl
Optional is 1 off?qcx_case_pot_shim.stl? ?This part makes the gain pot more suitable for a grub screw knob.

Don't print?qcx_case_short_draft.stl..? This is the bits assembled as an illustration

Happy the email direct if you have any more questions.

Dave

Hi Dave - glad you were able to use the STEP files.? Could you let me see the changes you made (STEP would be great) in case this would help others.? I'd also love to see a photo.? Perhaps you could document a 'I made one'? on Thingiverse.

Dear Group - added new version of the case to??

This version is to G8MXV's specification and includes more room for the lipo, an on/off switch, battery supports to stop the lipo wandering and no microswitch or DC apertures.?

This version has been printed and assembled.? Everything fits!??

Details in zip file on Thingiverse plus photo in main file section.

I have had the regular CR-10 for about 6 months now that I have been pretty happy with.? Probably about the usual number of issues and tinkering required.? I just ordered the second Z axis drive, so more tinkering is coming my way soon.

I'm currently working on a case and knobs for my NorCal 40A build.? I'd have to move a lot of components off the QCX PCB to use it for the QCX.? We'll see...? Only about 300 more kits to go before mine gets shipped.

Dipping my whole foot with a Creality CR-10S4. Its currently on a GearBest slow boat from China but after I get it calibrated, first useful print will be a QCX case or three....

Hi Kurt - I'm sorry but I can't give a recommendation but only my experience.

I bought a Anet A8 kit from Gearbest.? It wasn't a challenge to assemble.? The prints I get are very usable.? The printer cost me ?110 and the play value is immense.

As you say over the water - I've learned a lot.

Google will give you all the latest greatest - twin extruders, self levelling beds etc if you want something better.

I wanted to dip my toe at the minimum cost - and haven't been disappointed.

Dip a toe

Dear group,
I have added? a V2 top front case file to Thingiverse.? I had some print
problems with the original although it worked ok with some cleanup. This
version prints great for me with 20% grid support. You need to cut out
the very thin disk in the Gain control recess after printing.? Based on
much good forum feedback. Thanks guys.

My QCX in 3D printed case.? The objective was to case the QCX with all
controls mounted on the board and without shaft extensions.? The box has
room for a LIPO battery and has a connector for my GPS.

Dave,

Do you have a suggestion and source for the LIPO battery that will fit in the larger case?

thanks,

That's the same one I have. A couple of upgrades I made and I highly reccomed if you haven't made them are the all metal micro swiss hot end and a piece of borosilicate glass for the print bed. I also HIGHLY recommend Makergeeks filament.?

Love the short version, Dave.? Again, thank you!? Hoping to get my printer dialed in shortly after Christmas, but this will likely be one of my first prints!??
