O Happy Day!
Ho ho ho! The Fedex sleigh arrived from Turkey today, delivering my new assembled QMX+. First fire up at 12.0V showed power out on all bands that matched the QRP labs pre-shipment maasurement (I used my QRP-o-meter to confirm).
?
I got on 30 meters and put out a quick CQ on my matched 1/4 wave vertical and got a call back right away. Unfortunately the "gentleman" who responded decided that since I was running QRP he was annoyed. He lowered his power so that I could not hear him, told me he had done it, and then stated, "Most QRP operators can't hear other QRP stations." Then he said a curt 73 and signed off.
?
I have decided to not let the grinch of the airwaves destroy my Whoville QRP joy.

Welcome to the club of happy QMX owners (with or without the "+")
Very strange encounter, I must say.?To quote AE5X's definition of a QRPer: "a radio operator who places increased difficulty of communication on the other party, then claims the bragging rights of a successful contact for himself" :-) ?
I often call CQing weak stations (say 539-559). Almost all of them reply. More often than not we later find out it's a 2way QRP QSO. The extra thrill, especially if it's also a QMX on the other side.

Yes, there rarely is a station that I can not hear. In my 40 years of hamming I have never had such an encounter until now. Especially when I am the one who was calling... and he answered me. Whatever. Ain't got no time for negativity. I'll get on tonight after work and work some others!

Although he intentionally lowered his power so I had difficulty hearing him, I was able to make out his statements regarding having done so. Honestly the point of my post was to be thankful for the new QMX+. I thought people would get a chuckle out of the anecdote.

Merry Christmas everyone,

What a great treat before xmas. I had naively hoped for a similar fate but I don't think the parts have even been shipped.? I can scarcely imagine how busy Hans and his team are...truly offering one of the best values in radio.
?
As? for your QRP anecdote, it happens. I think it says a lot more about the other guy than you.
?
That being said, I know many of us QRP folks pat ourselves on the back for the 'skill' of making contacts with low power. Its true, it does take skill--but only because of the skill and patience of the other operator--and often their antenna. I see a lot of folks combining low power with low grade antennas. When it works, great, when it doesn't, we should not be surprised.? When I run the qrp rigs I never sign /QRP but when a QRP calls me, I always try and lower to the same power to make a true QRP to QRP qso. I digress...
?
Enjoy the new rig and happy holidays!

Steve,
I'm certainly impressed by your QRPp results!??
My indoor z shaped dipole on the 2nd floor bedroom ceiling does not help me much on QRP CW.? Walls and ceilings here are stucco so have an embedded wire mesh.? Result is what living in a partial faraday cage is like! ?
If I get bored I'll work some FT-8 or FT-4 on 20.? But I'd rather be pounding a key, or using the built-in keyer on the QRP Labs rig in use at the time.
