Key clicks when AGC is active #qmx

On my QMX MB with 1_00_019 firmware I have a problem with key clicks, only when AGC is ON. I tried with different AGC settings without success.
My current AGC settings are:

AGC????????????????????????? ON
Treshold S???????????????? 7
Slope dB per dB??????? 60
Noise filter??????????????? 5
Hang time???????????????? 30
Smooth samples?????? 50
Recovery dB/s?????????? 50
Sample blocks?????????? 2
S9 sounds like S??????? 9
AGC display?????????????? ON
AGC dB per bar???????? 3

and "Suppress thump" is set to "YES".

I have read that many people have solved this problem with "Sample blocks" set to "2" but it does not work for me.
Has anyone had the same problem and how did thy solve it?

Ivan, 9A7AM ??

Ivan and Group,
I notice this also... don't have my AGC settings handy to share.
Sounds better w/AGC off.

I am having the same experience.? I have tried various AGC settings from different posts and nothing solves it.? It is unusable as it is, the clicks will blow my ears or headphones.

Bruce, did you try to increase the sidetone volume? I know this is not the ideal solution (especially not when using in ear headphones) but it does tame the clicks a lot...

I had the same problem with mine (also a mid-band). What happened for me was that AGC would reduce the receive volume too much, which meant I had to crank up my main volume a lot. This in turn meant I had to lower my side tone volume a lot or otherwise it would by way too loud. But what seems to happen is that the side tone volume doesn't reduce the volume of the start and end of the tone somehow, so you get clicks.

When you switch to digital (click left rotary encoder I think), is the signal suddenly incredibly loud? That's what mine did, and I think is a way to see if your volume is set very high to compensate for the AGC attenuating too much. Another "symptom" was that the click you hear when turning the QMX off was super loud for me.

Anyway, all that to say, for me changing the AGC values mostly fixed it. As a test, digi mode sounds close in volume to CW now. Still sounds louder, but that's probably because of the wider filter. The values I used are from this thread. And here is the thread where people helped me fix it. I see that you're already using pretty much these settings though.

I'm very curious though if your AGC attenuates your received signal so much you have to turn your main volume up a lot, making the clicks louder. What does digi mode sound like in comparison with CW? What is your side tone volume set to? Oh, and do you have your side tone volume set to "relative"?

Increasing sidetone volume does seem to reduce clicks, but then the sidetone is so loud I musr remove my headphones.

Willem, for me it seems cw and digi let you set each volume independently.

I did more investigation this morning.? Transmit on all bands is about 5w on my 60-15m.? I dont teally use 60m.? It seems the clicks are only an issue on 40m.? All other bands I do not notice.? Receive signals on 40m seem very low.? However even with volume all the way down, the noise floor is almost too loud.? Since I get 5w out on 40m that tells me my lpf section is good.

I tried to reflow solder on l405b and c401 thru c404.? All are clean and solid but this did not make any change.? Not sure what else to look at for poor receive on 40m?

My statements above only seem to be true on 40m, so I opened a new thread for this.?

I did not experience key click issues with recommended settings on 15m or 20m.? Please see my other thread and assist if you can.

Bruce, do you still have key click issues on 40 meters when feeding a dummy load? If they go away with a dummy, you may have a problem with RF getting into the rig which could be mitigated with a common mode choke at the rig's BNC.

Hello all,

it was reported Sidetone set to Relative could be better than Absolute.
