JT-9 working well tans Atlantic on 2200 meters, but no spots uploaded?
Chris Wilson 20 November 2017
The superb ears of N1BUG logged me several times from here in the UK to Maine US using JT-9 one minute TX sessions, but despite me preceding my message with a "B" (B 2E0ILY IO82) and he having WSJT-X set with upload spots ticked, no spots are uploaded to PSKReporter map I do get occasional spots from the Canary Isles (EB8ARZ/2) using the same U3S set up here. Are either of us missing something does anyone know? Thanks! WSPR2 spots work fine and upload to the WSPRNet map. -- 2E0ILY Best regards, Chris mailto:chris@... -- Best regards, Chris Wilson (2E0ILY) |
Hi Chris,
I tried JT-9 on 6m a while back and found that "CQ G8BQR IO82" initially (despite being unable to complete a QSO !) and, after looking through the info for an alternative, found "DE G8BQR IO82" both of which were spotted.? Incidentally, TX of JT-9 after a WSPR period also worked. U3s, software v.3.09c Regards,? Ed,? G8BQR |

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. We (n1BUG and I) are still unable to get his spots of my JT-9 signal onto the PSKReporter map so I will try CQ and DE preceding the call and locator. I am actually transmitting JT-9 directly after a WSPR2 transmission, that diesn't seem to help. Thanks again for your time Ed. There is a U3s based multimode beacon on the big Island of Hawaii that comes in occasionally.
It alternates between WSPR, JT9, JT65 and CW. I could set up multiple instances of WSJT and decode all 3, but only WSPR would report. I think I used an older version of WSJT and could get JT65 to report but could never get JT9 to report. -----Original Message-----

Wednesday, November 29, 2017 I got this response, which I find a bit ambiguous, on the WSJT-X group, make of it what you will. If Hans sees this it would be helpful if he could confirm this is beyond the control of his coding and the U3S devices? Thanks. * QUOTED TEXT ** Hi Chris, as stated the last time this question was asked a few days ago, WSJT-X only spots to pskreporter received standard messages containing a valid grid square. An FT-8/JT65/JT9/MSK144/JT4/QRA64 message using 'B' in place of the DX call sign is not a standard format message, it is a free text message. Just because the U3S sends free text messages of this format does not make them valid standard messages. These QSO modes are not designed as a beacon modes, WSPR does that with greater sensitivity and its own Internet spotting service, wsprnet.org. The wsprnet.org database of spots is kept, I believe indefinitely, so is far more suitable for history queries and analysis of propagation. As WSPR is a beacon mode and supports band hopping there are also more likely to be active receivers on apparently closed bands so it's effectiveness for discovering openings is potentially greatest. You may be tempted to request that a message of the form "B <DE CALL> <GRID>" become a valid standard message but I suspect the response may well be negative as adding many beacon spots to QSO sub-bands will probably not be welcome. 73 Bill G4WJS. * ENF QUOTED TEXT **** Any responses? -----Original Message----- -- 2E0ILY Best regards, Chris mailto:chris@... --
