Internal mic seems to be working? #qmx #ssb

I've just tried transmitting SSB using the internal mic to a dummy load, with my K2 next to it to receive the SSB signal and record the audio.
Although the background noise was loud whenever I pushed the PTT button, my recorded voice was also loud and clear. I set the mic gain to 60 and compression to 10.
So the internal mic is already useable I guess? Anyone tried the internal mic to make a real contact?

Hans said it is set up for noise cancelling currently. ? You won’t sound very good ..?

I see. I quickly created a plug-in external mic just now for my handheld QMX, to work with the separate PTT switch I created earlier while waiting for the SSB firmware.
?
Yet to test the mic but I'm so excited to finally have a handheld SSB tranceiver!

If the SSB update has done anything, it's replaced the 3x/week questions about battery voltage with mic questions.
Glorious and very welcome!

I was going to be sarcastic and ask what kind of solder was needed to solder the plug on the mic cable. ;-)

As someone who has worked as 75% programmer, 25% electronics engineer all my working life, it's always pleasing when you see someone produce a nice solution to a task. Even more so when it's a one-man-band type of company. Actually, with 40+ years engineering experience, very little impresses me any more but this is an impressive piece of work from Hans.

I struggled for an hour today with pileups on a few strong stations on 20m, and finally made the first SSB contact with my handheld QMX when I almost gave up.
The other station in OR was running 100w I guess, and I gave the op 59 and I got 57.
Oh I was so excited and rushing, and forgot to ask how I was sounding. Hopefully it was just okay to give R5.
I was going to buy Hans some coffees when I make the first SSB contact with my QMX, and that's today!

My first SSB contact using the devices was over the internal mic, and using my left paddle to "key" PTT.?? It works, but was less than ideal. Currently I am using SSB over the USB audio and running my mic and headphone through my computer while I wait for my digikey order to come in.

While I'm not sure how bad it sounds on the other station, and I understand that it is less than ideal, I was able to make another SSB contact over the weekend using the internal mic. The station in UT gave me 53 and my report was 55.

Since the internal mic is enabled for noise input, I think it still works when used alone without the external mic. Of course the sound may not be so good without noise cancellation.
