Hello Hans and all the team, I completed the assembly of the new QMX yesterday evening, today I will do the first ignition I hope everything goes well, I wanted to ask you if it is really necessary to install the new firmware as described in the manual or the QMX can work without update.? Hope it works the first time you turn it on.? Thank you and good day. Giuseppe iu8eun

Hi Giuseppe,
Well done on building the QMX.
You will need to install the firmware before using the radio, in accordance with the instructions in the assembly manual. It's nothing to fear; basically just drag-and-drop the firmware file.
Good luck!

Hi Dav, thank you.? Having already assembled 2 QCX MINI and 2 U3S including 1 multiband and 3 QLG I had no difficulty building it, you just need a lot of patience, a steady hand and an eagle eye.? In the last picture there is a small square spacer pcb with a hole in it that looks like it didn't get installed. Check page 53 of the assembly manual.

Hello Hans and everyone, last night I checked with the DVM tester the two points you marked on the board and it reported a short circuit, then I unplugged the board to be sure and the short was still present, all the soldering points they are perfect and clean even on the main board.? Do you think it would be appropriate to try to make the first start to load the firmware ???? You can look for the problem elsewhere in the tab.? Thank you . Giuseppe iu8eun

Hello Giuseppe
If you have the?short between the Q103? and Q104 drains you have to resolve this BEFORE applying power.?
FYI I have now added this to the assembly manual, I uploaded the edited version this morning.?

If you look at the TAB of Q103, it looks like it's sitting on one
of the contacts of Q104. Looks like you need to move Q103 away
from Q104-- The short is to the pad of Q104, there's no way moving
Q104 will fix this short.
I have exactly this same problem to fix, when I get to
this board in the assembly process!
Good Luck!

Q103 and Q104 can look close, but still be ok. There's close and then there's too close. Mine pictured here are fine, no problems.? Q103 is centered on its pads. Although the tab extends off the pad on both edges there's just enough room.

Ok, looking more closely at both, my Q103 is clearly further away from Q104 than Giuseppe's is. So Giuseppe, be careful and be extra sure there's no short between Q103 and Q104!

hi all, thanks for letting me know about the spare parts that Hans has for sale in the shop, I have already bought them but they will be available in September so they won't arrive before October which means no QMX for the next 2 months.? Hello?Giuseppe
I'm sorry for the problems with a percentage of the power boards. I believe it to be a small proportion, I have been collecting statistics here on our assembled boards. I have so far found 3 with the short, and did manage to fix them all without issue.?
Unfortunately it's always the case with a first batch of anything, that there can be little issues. The more complex the product, the more probability of this happening. A large beta test pre-production run is a possibility but that would quite significantly escalate the costs, which none of us would like; so a certain compromise has to be reached. I am a small producer, a small business, we feature high performance and features and low prices, which everyone loves; I am also always trying to be quick quick?quick and the volume of designs?is quite high, over a short number?of years, when you consider that I alone am solely responsible for the hardware, firmware, documentation, support, and lots of the other tasks. It's a huge job. This is why I don't like to do more iterations of pre-production testing than are absolutely necessary.?

hi Hans, the message was not referring to you and your company, you are a person to be admired, you manage your whole company together with your family to give many radio amateurs all over the world pure entertainment at low prices, and this i first of all I am grateful and grateful to you.? You pay a lot of money to the companies that produce for your commission all the radios what I meant and that these companies should make a more precise control when their PCs and ROBOT assemble and solder all the SMDs, in the case of Q103 it is Q104, the pins are too too close, it is normal that 1 millimeter less distance creates the short as in my case and many others.? More precise and strict controls in the production phase of the Chips.? Yesterday I was disappointed trying to unsolder Q103 when it broke and seeing that it was soldered on the Q104 pin.? Excuse me, I will look forward to the shipment in mid-September, I can't wait to ? be able to put the QMX to work to make as many CW QSOs as with the QCX MINI.? Thanks again.? I wish you a good weekend.? 73 Giuseppe iu8eun

Question for you: When you broke Q103, what technique were you
using to unsolder it? Did Q103 actually break, unrepairably?
I ask, so I can make a different mistake when I try to fix mine!
Also, could you rebuild, using the broken board?
