FT8CN and QMX (1_00_017)
#firmware
#qmx
Hello,
I am wondering what the current operability status is between FT8CN and QMX (1_00_017). Mike KK7ER reported on FT8CN and QMX back in July 2023 (#105559) with regard to 1_00_005. Jim? VE4BWG |
Four things that got this working for me OM:
1) Select the Kenwood TS570 at 9600 baud, 8 -n-1, usb plus cat in the Settings window of FT8CN. 2) Be sure to set to "Lockd TX=RX" immediately to the right of the "Audio freq" entry in the same Settings window. 3) Set the "Signal output strength" to "100%" using the slider control which appears when you hit/select the speaker symbol on the right side of the/any FT8CN screen. 4) On the QMX set the MENU -> DIGI INTERFACE -> VOX to "ON". Finally go ahead and restart the FT8CN program with the QMX running in DIGI mode. FT8CN will ask you to select the serial port. DO THAT and you should be a happy camper. es vy 73 de "baab" w9ya |
Unfortunately, I cannot get QMX to work with FT8CN.
* ver 0.92 * QMX firmware 1_00_17 * QMX settings all default (factory reset) * FT8CN settings exactly as shown below QMX display shows the two spots indicating too low audio volume during TX. However, audio volume on my Android phone is maximum and also 100% in FT8CN.? Setting to Vox in QMX and/or FT8CN does not help.? Do you have any idea, what I could try next? 73 Frank DD4WH? |

Unfortunately, I cannot get QMX to work with FT8CN.Hello Frank, some phones allow to set the audio output higher than 100% and warn that this may damage hearing. With many phones the output for headphones or in-ear phones is a lot lower than the line output of a desktop PC. In that case the only way is amplifying the audio output. But that adds another small box to the setup and defies the purpose of working QRP and portable with the phone - unfortunately. 73 de Eike -- Eike Lantzsch KY4PZ / ZP5CGE |
Thanks, Philip,?
I interpreted this posting by Mike who clearly says it works for him: /g/QRPLabs/message/119130 Thanks, Eike,? I was talking about audio sent by USB-C from my Android phone with FT8CN to the QMX. So there is no analog line out, but digital audio (my interpretation).? @Mike KK7ER Maybe I am missing one of your settings? 73 de Frank DD4WH? |
Please refer to my message in this thread:
/g/QRPLabs/message/119105 That did work for me on my cell-phone. It has been used on several outings with complete success. PLUS ** I am in the process of installing using the same directions on a brand new Android tablet a.t.m. (I am NOT sure when I will be able to test using the new tablet on-the-air, but IF I run into any issues or changes; I will be sure to let this group know !) PLEASE NOTE: I offer up 4 things to check/set in my earlier posting referenced above. The first three are in the ft8cn program itself, and the last one is on the QMX itself. **** So....PLEASE be careful about this as some of the messages, in this thread, have indicated some confusion about this. es vy 73 de "baab" w9ya |
Thanks Bob!
It was exactly your 4 instructions I was following. Vox for QMX, CAT in FT8CN. But still, no transmit. I used the latest firmware with default settings, to ensure that I used "reset to factory settings ". Thus, I suspect there are other settings in your QMX that differ from the defaults. And it would be very helpful to know what these are. These are likely candidates, maybe? Could you tell us about your settings in: Rise threshold 80 Fall threshold 60 Min cycles 1 Min samples 480 Discard samples 1 CAT timeout ENABLED Thanks very much in advance! 73 Frank DD4WH? |

Groups.io seems to have hidden my response so I'll try again. You wrote: @Mike KK7ER

Perhaps.? I made a little video showing the settings and showing FT8CN working as expected with my QMX.Note the OTG adapter shown in the video was required for it to work for me. I'll leave the video up for a few weeks but will eventually have to delete it to make room on my Google Drive. 73, Mike KK7ER |
