Fed Ex Vacation Hold

As fate would have it, I received a shipping notice for my order on the same day I'm leaving for a holiday trip.? I discovered that I could set up a 14 day vacation hold in the Federal Express app. They will hold any packages for my address and deliver when the hold expires. Hopefully that will be helpful to someone else.?

I used that Fed Ex feature when I found myself in a similar situation with my QCX mini shipment.

They just ignored it.

?When I returned home I found it sitting slightly soggy in the driveway having been delivered on the day predicted when it was shipped.

Maybe you will have better luck.

We have a table on the front porch, and all our delivery folks have figured out that?it's a Good Idea to put packages on the table. ?

I ordered a Hantech 200MHz scope and FedEx delivered it by leaving it in front of our detached garage, which made it invisible from the house. Later that evening after a two hour torrential rain, I started to back my car out of the garage and, for some unknown reason, I stopped, got out of the car, and looked behind it. There was my soggy box that narrowly escaped being pancaked by my car. Fortunately, the internal styrofoam clam shell packaging kept the scope dry, but Fed Ex got an earful about their delivery.

From then on, every package from Fed Ex has been left on the back porch.

Those of you who have had good experiences with Fed Ex being responsive to your delivery instructions owe your local Fed Ex a big hug.? I have found my local Fed Ex to be impervious to requests.

On the good side.? I know what my next QRPlabs purchases will be, and I know that there is no chance that I will build them within six months.? So I am going to place orders now via the slow but reliable postal service.

Jack,
?I had a similar problem with a new USPS driver. I actually DID run over the package. Fortunately it was a very sturdy item with very good packaging and no damage was done to the contents.?

I saw a video recently where a UPS driver put the package on the porch, took a photo of it, then picked up the package and went back to the truck. People like that should do jail time.

Color me happy that we have a super neighbor. Not only does she deal with packages but picks up our mail, feeds our kitties, takes care of the litter and , when needed, waters the flowers. One of the benefits of a retirement community…….. oh and we are gone all summer too.

Of course we treat her well on our return.

Happily, we are one of those.
We have setup their "free" account online, and as long as I place instruction in the system more than 24 hours ahead, they have always respected it.

What I do complain about is that they typically charge for a change.? Even a 2 day delay.
? ?Example: if I have a 54 pound package being delivered, and will not be home for 2 days, they charge cost $10 (or some amount) to change the delivery.
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?Since they will try 3 times, ...
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?Instead, the driver must must haul the 54 pound package to my door, get no answer, leave a sticker, and then do the same the next day.
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?On the 3rd day, I am home and they deliver it.? Poor driver has been hauling the package to my door 2 other times - needlessly.

I wish the USPS was reliable.? Since our carrier retired the new one is hit and miss.? Apparently they split flats and parcels now with two trucks.? And the parcel driver apparently just stops when they are tired.? Then my package is marked as a delivery exception, delivery failed.? Back to the Post Office to sit a day then be delivered.? This has happened several times, and complaining gets me nowhere.

It is, however, entertaining to watch the progress of some shipments.? Miami to Jacksonville, Jacksonvill to Fort Meyers, Fort Meyers to Tampa, Tampa to Laleland, Lakeland to delivery in Sebring.? And we are less than 200 miles from Miami.

I’m in Memphis and I find it funny that EVERYTHING FedEx comes through here but my stuff sits for a day or two before being delivered.?

Several times I sent stuff from Canada and what I thought would take a few days took over a month. To make things worse, at the time, the rate was about $1. When I talked with my Canadian friends about the slow deloivery, they said that, of that dollar, $0.08 was for postage and the other $0.92 was for storage rental.

That UPS driver did that because there was a straight key in the box. “Nothing here”

FedEx no longer sends everything through Memphis, though it is still a major hub for them. Some things never get on a plane at all, even if they are next day packages; for example, if I order something from New York (I'm in Boston) they'll just send it up on a truck. That's one reason the service is now just called next day rather than next day air; they only commit to their promised delivery date and time, but make no promises about HOW they will do it.

I did have an issue while vacationing in Florida in our rental condo. ?The delivery driver (?USPS or whomever?) photographed the item by a door…. But didn’t make the photo high enough to see the condo number on the door. The package was not by our door ?so I went upstairs to the 3rd and 4th floor and sure enough. There is was by the correct door on the wrong floor. ?Where do they find these folks??

But only once in the last five years have I not received what I ordered, so I think in general the system is working. ?And Amazon immediately sent another one in two days. ?I am a content camper to say the least. ?And everything I ever ordered from Hans and Farhan came quickly sometimes via DHL. ?

Chris - I had the same results as you. The vacation hold was ignored.? They do follow the standing delivery instructions as to where to deliver.? For the first time I've noticed, they sent a picture of the delivered item.? I texted my neighbor and he picked it up.
