Customs clearance
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýVery strange. I've purchased 3 kits myself and have friends that have also ordered kits and no on has ever had a delay. All have come via FedEx.73, Cliff, AE5ZA

No, this is software. Much of which has been outsourced to the low bidder from Elbonia. Who did you get the notification from that it was awaiting clearance?

Might be that it never needs customs clearance, so normally it takes seconds to go through that part of the process, but this time it happened overnight, so you got an email to ¡®everyone who had stuff pending at midnight¡¯. I¡¯d give it another day. 73, Willie N1JBJ On Dec 13, 2023, at 10:21?AM, Keith Hamilton <n8cep.keith@...> wrote: |
Kieth I frequently buy older technical books from used book dealer in the UK. It is not unusual for the tracking info to show the package is awaiting authroization for? release in a Custom's Warehouse. The length of time varies from less than a day to over a week. Phase of the moon, tooth fairy on strike, whatever. It is what it is.? As annoying as it is, wait until you try to ship something across the pond and USPS decides they need compliance with Export Controls. About a decade back I sold some 300B's on e-Bay to a buyer in Korea. When presented at the post office there were several questions and directions to fill in the forms found at the counter. I had? never heard of the Export Control Act. Basically it is a requirement dropped on sellers that requires your confirmation the goods are not being shipped to a bad actor or someone who will divert them to a bad actor as well as verifying that what you? are shipping is not on a control list of things not to ship. Long story short manufacturers obtain a classification number and that number allows you to look up if there is risk? your wares if shipped to the 3rd party can be a violation that will get you all sorts of unwanted attention. There is an EAR Code 99 which indicates the material is not deemed a risk, but the 300B's were 70 years old and Western Electric any longer was just a? historical brain infart.? And without the manufacturer's classification I was going to be dead in the water.? Fortunately an employee listened to my sob story and accepted the package for delivery. For the life of me I have no idea how a bad guy could use 70 year old vacuum tubes to? make a weapon of mass destruction.? Chuck WD4HXG

Hi Keith,
It would help if you provided your call sign so that your country location can be found and so that you can provide a better response to your question.? If you are US-based, then there was something that triggered a review.? It may be shipping US-based stock to your country if you are outside the US. These questions could be directed to the online support page or the support email address. 73 Evan AC9TU |
The drug sniffing dog? may have? alerted on the package and caused it to be diverted for closer attention. Drugs that are shipped often produce cast off which spreads to other packages. When the dogs walks through they alert on the cast off and packages undergo additional scrutiny, It stinks, but... what's a poor devil to do?

Hi Keith I hate to bring this up here and I certainly don't want to bother Hans with my question but WHY should my stuff from QrpLabs be held up in the US awating clearance (customs) This is rediculous. It's not normal, something is wrong. US has no customs clearance. Anywhere. And certainly not in North?Jackson OH. I suggest you call FedEx and inquire. From my side, I have started a FedEx inquiry with customer support at this end, and CC'ed you on the email. 73 Hans G0UPL |

Hans? I beg to differ with you. About 15% of the time inbound international shipments? addressed to me languish anywhere from 1 to 10 days in Customs. The typical point of entry for my packages is New York.? Sometimes Canada.? Tracking services usually display "Awaiting Customs" when the package is held. As much as I wish we were exempt from customs holding shipments, it occurs.? Perhaps there are exceptions, but if so I am a frequent flyer. Regards Chuck WD4HXG

Hi Chuck Ok fine... some brief formalities..? But still nobody in US ever has to go through the tortures that Europeans go through, or the hell that Turks go through...? Either way look up North Jackson OH on the map. It's hard to imagine there being a customs processing facility there. I'm sure FedEx just got themselves in some kind of unrelated twist and someone just selected any old status message from a list and it has no relation to the actual situation.? Keith... Out of interest, did they say what the reason for the delay was? These days I vote DHL Express! 73 Hans G0UPL On Wed, Dec 13, 2023, 10:56?PM Chuck Moore via <wd4hxg=[email protected]> wrote:

Hi Hans, We actually do have customs clearance here in the States. It¡¯s handled by each carrier like FedEx, DHL, etc, at their major import hubs. I know because I¡¯m suffering through it right now. I have a computer that was stuck in customs clearance in Cincinnati OH for 6 days before I complained. DHL referred me back to Apple whose broker seems to be sleeping on the job lately. Apple got it cleared the next day but it¡¯s still stuck in Cincinnati for the past week because DHL is overloaded with holiday packages at their hub. No delivery date has been given, they won¡¯t ship it to my local hub, and Apple is considering cancelling my order and starting over again. I can¡¯t even get an Amazon Prime shipment delivered right now. Tony - AC9QY On Wed, Dec 13, 2023 at 10:59?AM Hans Summers <hans.summers@...> wrote:

I have also had some of my shipments from QRP Labs get held up in'cusoms'. Not all, and I can't remember if it was FedEx or USPS, but it did occur. Eventually came through with no issues.?

Hans, DHL Express is anything but, they should be called DHL Slow Boat. Zero customer service, broken promises, no one knows anything about anything, constant calls to different offices. My item shipped from China on 11/25, hit the Cincinnati hub on 12/2 and has been MIA ever since.
