Cremains of QMX #146 Offered Free to a Good Home
My QMX went up in smoke at my initial power up.? One of the voltage regulators on the buck power board blew.
Prior to that, I was able to download the firmware using a 9v smoke detector battery for power. Afterward, I got that row of boxes, indicating that the processor had not booted.? The fatal error was connecting my 12v supply (3ah LiFePo4 battery) which precipitated the failure. I have no way of knowing whether anything beyond the buck power board was damaged. I'm throwing in the towel on this one. I successfully built 4 QCX units that worked, but this one is beyond me.? Despite a 3x magnifier headset, I was not able to find any solder bridges or faulty connections. My eyes are getting too old. And I don't have the electronics background to troubleshoot it. Anyway, the remains of this QMX are offered to anyone who would like it. I ask only for shipping reimbursement. $10 will do it.? This offer does NOT include the enclosure as I hope to get a factory built unit if and when the backlog ever decreases. (It was at 770 builds yesterday.) My QRZ contact info is good. Jack N8EU |
If still available, I'll take it.? Dale ks4ns On Wed, Jul 19, 2023, 8:07 PM Jack Kibelbek via <jack45458=[email protected]> wrote: My QMX went up in smoke at my initial power up.? One of the voltage regulators on the buck power board blew. --

I did the exact same thing.? I sent to Jeff Moore who is a wizard at troubleshooting and repairing all things QRPlabs.? He told me it was not worth it.? The over voltage damaged several key components.? Lots of smoke.? Should have left it and sent it to him before I tried troubleshooting it myself and shorted out two pins.? See my chat labelled qmx will not power up.??
