Balloon tracker site showing unusual data for me. #u4b

Alan Kilian

I just hung my new U4B and antenna-system up in my living room (Wife is away and it's POURING rain outside right now.)

I'm seeing people report my WSPR transmissions:

But the balloon tracker for Vertical_1 shows unusual values that don't make sense.

I see some tracking sites show values for voltage, temp and number of spots that make sense, but a lot of them do not.
Did the WSPR/TELE protocol change at some point and so the web processor needs an update?
Or is it because my GPS can't get a lock inside my house? (I don't know if it's locked or not since I'm not plugged-in to the USB port.)

It's not a big deal right now since I'm kilometers away from launching a balloon, but it would be great to see it working before launch.

Alan,
? how long have you been transmitting? I¡¯ve got my receiver connected to an outdoor G5RV. I have a WSPR-PI hat that I run occasionally, but it can take a while during day and night with varying ionospheric conditions to see a pattern for your antenna.

?Good luck and hope it starts being ¡°heard¡±?
as the evening goes on.?

Hi Alan?
You may notice that your received spots are FN42kj
The U4B will only transmit M4 or FN42 but wsprnet is being smart and knows your call is located at kj so makes up a M6 location?
This screws up the decoding.as the decoder tries to add kj to FN42kj and it fails??
Change your call sign to something else and it should work properly??
In real life once you leave the FN42 M4 locator everything will work as wsprnet will not do that thing .
There may be a fix for this that is easier.
You can try my call for a brief test VE3KCL to verify?

Thanks Dave,

I don't know even what language it's written in so maybe I'm talking out of school, but maybe the next time someone is in the server code they could update it to just take the first four characters of the location field from wsprnet. That seems like a decent permanent solution.

Thanks Dave, I'm trying it right now.

I'm seeing one transmission-pair so far, and correct data in the flight tracker! I'll wait for a couple more transmissions and then stop using your callsign.

OK, all done, thanks Dave VE3KCL!

?

Here's where I was hear using low power! FANTASTIC!

Moving on to solar panels after they arrive, and then on to balloons and hydrogen!

Oh, here's a video of my super sketchy antenna mount!
