Another Recommendation for Jeff Moore W1NC

In the last few weeks, I have sent both a QMX and a QMX+ to Jeff Moore, W1NC for repair. As many know, Jeff will inspect your builds, repair what¡¯s necessary and provide a detailed report of what he found. His knowledge of these radios is extraordinarily and the turnaround time is impressive. Plus, best of all, he¡¯s a really nice guy.
?
For anyone considering a build of these amazing radios but are concerned that it may not work as expected when finished, just know that Jeff is an incredible resource to help. He is highly recommended.

I absolutely concur!!? I smoked my QMX+ as soon as I powered it up and thought it was a goner.? I sent it off to Jeff and got it back in about a week working great.? Turns out that it had multiple problems that needed fixing.? He documented everything and even loaded the firmware.? He only charges for parts and shipping but will accept contributions for a parts inventory for future repairs.?

Please be generous so old guys like me (who find themselves over their heads building the QMX+) can get to enjoy this fantastic XCVR.

?

As for me, I first added an internal battery supply to my QMX+ (see /g/QRPLabs/message/134189).? Since then, I¡¯ve had over 200 QSOs (including 59 countries) using both CW and FT8 on 80 through 10 meters.? QRP is great fun!

Hello. I heartily endorse both of these commendations for Jeff's kindness and service to us individually and also to the amateur radio community. It's nice to know that if/when we run into the proverbial diagnostic brick wall, we can happily say "uncle" and ship it off to Jeff. He has helped me out with a QMX and a QCX-mini and both radios are giving me much enjoyment. Thanks Jeff.

For future reference, you can look Jeff's email up on QRZ (W1NC). Groups.io seems to eat emails/urls sometimes.

My QMX has the VDD fail problem.? I doubt it is financially worthwhile posting from UK to USA even if Jeff is prepared to handle the inevitable paperwork.
?
I lack both expertise and a steady enough hand.? I do have a friend with both but it is a bit of an ask - so is there anyone in UK who offers a similar service?? Otherwise it looks like starting again with a new kit.

My hat is off to Jeff as well. ?He helped me before with a qmx+. and is doing it again! ?I promise not to build another one of these, hihi. ?At this point I am wondering why ?the other qrp lab kits I built actually worked!
But Jeff represents the very best of what amateur radio is about. ?72/73?
