QDX on packet radio ?

I wonder if anyone has tried the QDX on 300bd/1200bd packet radio (Bell 202 modem)?

There's a contest in two weeks coming up.

I'm also hearing AX25 packet on chicken band 27.235Mhz FM.

Some administrations have allowed it, but that's another topic.

I have written a fair bit on the subject.? Here's one:?/g/QRPLabs/topic/91727294#95926

Search the site for my callsign and you will find more.?

The short answer is, yes.? 5w is hardly sufficient though. I have a 50w QRP-Labs amp and external switched LPF to help it out.? I'm actually looking at selling it. Wanna buy??

Good to know Josh.

I was kinda curious, and thought that the info might be of interest to some QDX owners
seeking another mode to play with.

I'm a VERY old school packet racket man, from the days when we had a gazillion BBS's
to connect to, thousands of interesting "bulletins" and discussions taking place and swapping
files with 7+/uucode etc.

What's left seems to be more like an IRC type network, nice, but for me it was the pre-internet style
BBS systems that grabbed me.

Maybe time for a packet radio come back.

The internet before the internet ;-)

I have a full BPQ node running at the house but have changed out the QDX for a TS-590S for now.? I have a VHF node as well but it doesn't connect to much.? I think the integration of the internet with packet radio has been an attempt to keep up with technology but I'm not really a fan.? I would be happier if "old school" packet radio was still a thing but without any good VHF/UHF routes around here, I don't know if it is going to ever take off in this mountainous part of America.?

There is also TARPN which is an attempt to fix congestion on packet radio (not a problem anymore) and AREDN which brings speed and bandwidth to packet radio but the range is limited due to the high frequencies involved.? Neither of these ideas approve internet integration which is really cool.??

I need to look at Chris Lance's link on the packet contest to see what it is about.? Maybe I'll actually get involved with a contest for once too.? I may even hook up the QDX again for kicks.

If you want to know specifics about my QDX packet setup, feel free to ask.

Andy,
You are bringing back some old memories for me.

A 1200 baud full duplex 2-wire modem was my very first design project as a freshly minted engineer out of Ann Arbor, MI.

Heck I was and other were running BPQ back in the 90's.
A great AX25 packet switch along with the famous F6FBB BBS software.
