Is this a secret cheat? #20m

I did something completely by coincidence and I don't know if.it's a cheat or bug or?everyone knows already.

Hi everyone, this is Levent Tamay TA1TMY from istanbul. I've been using Qcx Mini 20 and 40 m. for more than one year. In this period sometimes I saw that the cursor on the screen jump to first two digits of frequency. I thought it's just and error. But yesterday I notice that, if I press the freq knob leftly,? I mean turning counter clock wise while pressing, I can make the cursor jump to left. So I could change the band. By trying both 10, 12, 20, 30, 40 meter bands, I observe that I can get good results on 30 m. on Reverse Beacon Network. Did I hit the jackpot? Found the secret and won the big lottery??

Best regards

Hi Levent. Unfortunately it's not really the lottery. The rig will transmit on any band at the lowpass filter frequency and lower, not necessarily with full output power except on the band it is designed for. Where the problem occurs though, is that the 20 meter lowpass filter, although it will pass all frequencies below its cutoff frequency it will not attenuate the harmonics very well on the lower frequencies. It will not be in compliance with most regulators unless you add a lowpass filter for each band you want to use.?

Another way to change bands even faster is to enter a frequency for each band in the presets and just call up the one you want to go to. But you still need the filters.

Also you will find that the receiver sensitivity is not as good as it could be on any band that T1 is not designed for.?

Have fun .. 73 ... Ron

??¡á? Damn! I thought I was so close to it. ? Thank you very much Ron for this kind and crystal clear explanation.?

Hi Levent,

what you discovered is not a secret cheat. Clicking on the encoder and immediately turning clockwise will bring the cursor left and can be used to change frequency.

Using a band below your original band is ok and works. I don't see a need for additional filters as harmonics of 30 m will not affect other bands and end up in the LPF for the 20 m band. Using a higher band will not work as the LPF will not let the signal pass.
