JS8call set up with QDX

g4edg

Hi

Just downloaded and installed JS8call, the CAT setup was successful, but having trouble with the audio side. I can see 2 appearances of QDX in audio devices in Windows 10 Device Manager, but these fail to show in the audio setup in JS8call...all I can see there is the laptop's own sound system.

Any ideas what is going on?

Regards

Steve,

Some Windows programs require that the device be active when the program starts.? Did you try restarting the JS8 program after the QDX is connected to the USB port?

There's a flaw in the QDX firmware that causes the QDX to not be recognized by Windows if the QDX USB plug is inserted when the QDX is powered on.

You might need to plug in the QDX first, then power it on, then start JS8Call.

I realize you said you saw the QDX listed in audio devices, but you may still be having a problem with the above flaw in addition to a problem with when to start JS8Call. In other words, sequencing is important.

I had to play around with the sequencing of plug, power, and program to get it to work.

I've tried to let Hans know that this flaw is a failure point for those of us with Windows, just one more thing you have to get right before everything works. I think he might find a way to fix this in the future.

Is that really confined to the QDX? I find that the sequencing is very
important with the YAESU FT991A too.
Have to plug in, then switch on the radio, then start JS8call with the
FT991A too. Then audio wokrs - what still does not work is CAT via USB.
I anted to try that with the QDX but it seems that my mailforwarder has
lost that package on the way from Miami to Asunci¨®n/PY.

Thank you all!

Yes, the answer is all in the sequence

1. Power up QDX and wait for rapid flashing of LED to stop.
2. Plug in USB
3. Start up JS8call
4. Configure (if needed)

Both CAT and Audio seem to behave doing it this way. (Windows 10)

YMMV

Just starting with JS8Call and QDX.? However, the above sequence is not working for me.? FT8 works OK.? I see the correct Port/audio but NO QDX in the radio options...any other suggestions, tried multiple sequences,?? Win10 and new QDX as of June '23.? Thks

Mitch,

You may have to select TS-480 as the rig. The latest Wsjtx has the QDX listed, but JS8Call may not have been updated to give that option.

Many thanks!? After several hours of sequencing and many options, your suggestion of TS-480 it is now WORKING!??

Wow, that was an ordeal...but it looks like all ok, now for my first QSO.
