Panadaptor
Hi Paul Nice idea. But then the QCX-mini is by far the smallest part of the whole setup. Can you imagine having a panadapter as a separate?box the size of QCX mini? Like Elecraft's KX3?+ PX3 combo. That would?be really cool! I know it is a rather ambitious idea, but I could resist it, hi! Kind regards Janez, S58J V V ?et., 28. okt. 2021 ob 11:56 je oseba Paul Harrison via <dj0cu=[email protected]> napisala: This panadaptor looks perfect as an addition to the qcx mini etc. |

Would a panadaptor be pretty useless with a direct conversion receiver though, because you'd see a whacking great big signal at the frequency of the QCX?No, SDRs are direct conversion. Many do not avoid this situation although it is suppressed to varying degrees. The exact centre is best avoided in many SDRs Note that the actual local oscillator is right at the centre and the ADC sees it as zero Hz. No actual response at 0Hz. 73 Alan G4ZFQ |

What I wrote below probably makes little sense, SDR is not easily explained. Note that all Hans' receivers are SDR front ends. 2 mixers, I and Q signals produced and cancelled. I do not know where the basics are presented simply. I wrote something on this page and other Softrock pages in a crude attempt to explain. This refers to soundcard SDR which is what you get when you feed IQ signals to a soundcard but fundamentally any SDR is the same. 73 Alan G4ZFQ TrystanWould a panadaptor be pretty useless with a direct conversion receiver though, because you'd see a whacking great big signal at the frequency of the QCX?No, SDRs are direct conversion. I have a PX3 Panadapter for my Elecraft KX3. I have wondered whether it could be adapted to my QCX radios.Steve, Possibly, it depends on what frequency (IF?) it is designed to work with and if you can convert to that frequency. Maybe easier is to feed the QCV IQ to a soundcard and use a SDR program. 73 Alan G4ZFQ |
The PX-3 does use I/Q signals. You still may need to deal with signal level and offset issues, though. It sounds like a nice experiment. 73 Lee KX4TT On Friday, 29 October 2021, 09:22:23 am GMT-4, Alan G4ZFQ <alan4alan@...> wrote: On 29/10/2021 12:44, K9NUD-Steve wrote: > I have a PX3 Panadapter for my Elecraft KX3. The PX3 expects an audio I and Q input. It's the P3 that needs an IF signal. Jim? G4EQX On 29/10/2021 14:22, Alan G4ZFQ wrote:

I'm not sure how much bandwidth you'd get. On the QCX C43-46 would have to be considerably reduced and IC5's feedback changed. 73 Alan G4ZFQ |
This video shows usage with SSB, which is fine.? However,? with QCX in full QSK mode, the T/R switch is much faster than in SSB mode.? ?Also need to consider QCX output of PPT is high(+5) for transmit,? low for receive, while most transceiver , and I believe this T/R switch expect? low ( ground) for transmit, high (float) for receive.??
