17m QCX on WSPR #qcx

I tried the little radio on WSPR this morning.? I was using a P-Loop antenna sitting on a tiny second story balcony.? I've never done anything with WSPR but found the setup instructions easy to follow. I let it run for about 10 cycles with 10 minutes between cycles before shutting it down.??I only had one hit but it was almost 1800 miles away.? ?I had set the frequency for 18.106100 and set the time by hand since the?gps?module is still in the box.? ?When I looked up the spot on the wspr site the frequency was reported as 18.106077.? Does this mean I need to adjust something on the radio or is this normal?

Hi Kerry

By default the reference frequency configuration menu item is set to 27.004MHz but this is only an approximate estimate and in general, does not exactly match the actual crystal frequency. You need to adjust that menu setting - either using the GPS and menu 8.11, or manually (in menu 8.5).

Kerry,

But do not rely on another station's spot unless you know it has an accurate RX.

Ok thanks Alan.? I wondered about that.??

Thanks Hans.? I have the gps?unit but haven't built it yet.? Looks like it is time for another project.??

It's worth building the QLG1 just to see a blinking pink heart on a blue/white 1602A display.

It's an immense labor-saver, but that's nothing compared to the above miracle.
