Programming Power
Seems like we have enough programming power (programmers) in this group that if Hans taps into it, the sky is the limit for the QSX. I wonder what the holdup is with the QSX, hardware of software,? or both?? The wait for it is excruciating.? I have the need for...... melting solder.? C'mon Hans, help about 10K of us solder melters out.

Hans, Farhan, and I have enjoyed an evening meal together for the past couple of years at FDIM. This year I asked him about the QSX and how it was going. He detailed a typical day in his life. Other than the joy he gets from his family, none of us would want any part of his day...especially his work schedule! There are two things about Hans you can bank on: 1) he working as fast as he can to get the QSX ready for the market, and 2) when it arrives on the market, it will be ready for the market. Knowing what he stuffed into a Nano, the QSX with the resources of the STM32 is going to be amazing, especially if he has an API for us software nuts to dink around with! So, sit tight, tweak your antenna and everything else in the downtime you have right now. Let's just leave him alone and let him get "OUR" rig done! Jack, W8TEE

Dave,
He has help.? The big issue with SDR is that your not just a programmer as the programming interacts with hardware, sometimes more so than one would be aware of.? It has to be the best example of programming close to the metal. That and multiple programmers is like herding cats.? I've been there and done that. Allison -- Please reply on list so we can share. Off list email goes to trash, I had to due to scrapers. |
Hans does have a major advantage over other firmware developers.? He's the developer, the project manager, and the marketing department.? I always had marketing breathing down my neck, and they thought time for testing was just a delaying tactic. I'm sure Hans' recent firmware upgrades for the clock and QCX were needed breaks from QSX development. Larry AC8YE On Thu, Nov 28, 2019 at 6:22 AM Clive Lorton <clive.g8poc@...> wrote:

开云体育It's not common knowledge, but marketing types have only one helix in their DNA, so they can be re-programmed if you're careful.? :)

Allison, I am sure Hans is quite capable and doesn't need another person messing with his software, the old too many cooks in the kitchen story.? I was just trying to acknowledge all of the programmers that have been telling of their past/vast experience with the different variations of languages/chips that have come along over the years, and perhaps to remind Hans that there are probably thousands waiting on the QSX's arrival.? But I'm sure he knows that already.? Happy Thanksgiving to all that celebrate it. |
All the more reason to NOT release the QSX before it is really ready. Can you imagine the workload if Hans released the QSX with buggy firmware? I really appreciate the 'deep dive' attitude that Hans brings to his projects.? And when he is done with some particular deep dive aspect, he publishes and shares! I really can't expect any more than that.? Hans' dedication to getting it right is head and shoulders above some other popular QRP kit providers, who shall rename nameless.? Not everyone is eager to get a 'project' when they order a kit. 73, -- Dave, N8SBE
