QCX 40 sidetone issue

I completed, aligned and tested my unit and everything seemed fine.
When I keyed it, the sidetone sounded clear and did not miss anything.
On the air, the signal was clean and easy to copy, monitored on a remote
station.

I set up the memories, and now keying from the memories, the dits are broken
up or partially missing at time.? Likewise keying from a straight key or the micro
switch, the sidetone is also broken up at time.

any suggestions are welcome.

thanks,

Paul K0ZYV

Hi Paul

What firmware version do you have? There were a few issues with the sidetone and messages functionality. These were resolved in version 1.00b.?

It works well if I switch it to the cw practice, without rf output.? I
get about 3.3 watts out at 11.8 volts in.? with rf output, the display
dims slightly.

Hi Paul

Perhaps there are two possible causes.?

Firstly, check menu "4.5 Auto Space" and make sure it is Off. That feature didn't work in version 1.00b but is fixed in version 1.00c.?

Secondly, it is possible that you have the issue with Q6 and/or C33 oscillations, which others have also been discussing here. Subsequent kit batches have used MPS751 which seems to avoid the issue. You can also try replacing C33 with a lower value capacitance.?
