Should we have a QCX QSO Party? #qcx

Harv - K2PI

With many thousands of QCX transceivers on the air, should we consider a QCX QSO party?? We can have band specific awards, power maximum awards (not all QCX transceivers have the same output), and maybe key awards (internal straight key vs. external SK vs. bug vs. keyer).

Not sure the best month, but I suggest a? transition month between NA and EU seasons so that we can allow those with lowband and highband QCX transceivers equal opportunity to participate.

Just a thought.

I¡¯ll join in as well! If you need help organizing let me know. I¡¯d be happy to help.?

Excellent idea!?

Peter, GM0EUL

Would be fun and I know that a lot of guys in my area (JO32hi) who also have a QCX would love that to.

Great Idea!? Once per month, maybe.? Keep it simple, though.? One award per band.? Set a narrow range of frequencies.? Slow speed, please for the rest of us.? Since the rig is well known, the challenge will be operator skill and antenna quality.? Howard, n3fel

I have thought along these lines for ages i just worry that Hans has enough on his plate already. Any key any power just log your QSO's. Just getting? us all on the air at the same time will be enough of an achievement!

Richard G0ILN.?

Harv - K2PI

I we foist this off on Hans, then we are doing it wrong.? I assumed a grassroots effort.?

Once a month seems too much for a QSO party, but once a month for a "rally", of perhaps two morning and two evening hours might be useful.? This provides an opportunity for new builders to put their rigs on the air and give them a real workout, while at the same time giving an incentive for others to work them through scoring arrangements.? Maybe that's the monthly event we are all looking for?

Might be a good idea to do something similar to CWOPS weekly mini ( although not weekly) that operates early am, mid afternoon and late evening so that all band openings are covered.?

I'm still learning CW, but I'm in if you're all patient with me lol...

I¡¯m in as well, pending my work schedule. I¡¯m still learning my Morse code, so this will be a good exercise =)

Let's just give it a go.? It wouldn't take much organising other than deciding on a monthly date and we could copy the CWT time slots and frequencies 28-38 from the bottom of the band and one hour starting at 1300z 1900z and 0300z to allow a good range of participation.? How about the last Monday of the month starting with 25th Feb.? Call CQ QCX and exchange RST Name and SN of the QCX in use.? I'd also suggest at least initially a speed limit of 15wpm to encourage those relatively new to cw.? Would we allow decoders?? Score one point for each qso after excluding dupes.? I think the only other thing is somewhere to post scores where others can see.? 3830scores would be ideal but I don't know how you get a new event included.? Happy to look into it.

What do you think?

Peter,??
If we keep it simple, then allow only what is needed to make the QCX function, i.e. a straight key or paddle, an antenna tuner and antenna, a DC supply, and a pair of earphones.? No RF amplifiers, external decoders, CW keyboards, etc.? Any menu function of the QCX is fair game. A logging computer is OK for record keeping.? Howard, n3fel

I like GM0EUL's suggestion.

I can't find the serial number for my QCX-40 - how about output power to the nearest Watt as a substitute for the historically impaired like me? Or even the QCX impaired?

I will likely miss two of the sessions on the last Monday of this month - but trying to accommodate everyone in every timezone is a hopeless task.

Good work Peter. Thanks for stepping up.

These QCX transceivers are monobanders; how to we work that?? Karl

Hi,
let me announce that in OK we have some activity, mostly focused on young operators, which started thanks to a lot of QCX built there and thanks to activity of Julda, OK1NE (and his team). For now it is slowly starting activity each Wednesday from 16 to 16:30 UT, logs in cabrillo format sent via web portal.
See details here?
For now only several stations active but after some time it should be interesting mini-contest for QRP guys and for young operators.

It doesn't matter that they are monobanders.? Just go on whatever bands you have either single or multi-band if you have more than one QCX, or even experiment with techniques.? I have a 40m QCX and a half-finished 20m.? I might try SO2R.

Thanks for the suggestion, outstanding,
I am all in for your date, time, freqs es exchange.

(" Would we allow decoders?...Peter)
CW is my first language so no problem with speed but
suggest that since the QCX offers 'both' a CW decoder and incoder why not allow both?
I think decoders will attract more participation.

N1MM+ is an outstanding logger and posting system.
Log after the QSO 'exchange' es 73/73.
