QCX died after one QSO

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I¡¯ve had my 40m QCX built and working with WSPR for a while and decided it was time to try a CW QSO.

?

All went fine, worked a local contact for over 30 minutes and then shut it down.

?

Now when I connect power I get the dread top row of blocks.

?

I¡¯m at a loss as it was working fine and then this.

?

I have limited test equipment so the next step I guess is check the voltages as per the instructions and check for obvious soldering faults.

?

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Have you done the micro controller start up mod detailed on Hans¡¯ QCX pages?

No trees were harmed in the sending of this mail. However, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Yes I have. Before it would start ok with a couple of on/off cycles.

Try pulling?out the micro-controller and reseat.?

If no joy, recheck all the solder joints and touch up as required.

Pulled out the micro-controller and reseated it.

That did the trick.

Thank you so much everyone for the help

Much appreciated.

Two things,

Check the socket pins for good soldering and insure all the flux has not gotten into the socket.
(rise well with Isopropyl alcohol.)

Glad you got it going without too much trouble.

Well the blocks are back after an evening of running WSPR ok.

Switched it on tonight and blocks along the top again.

Reseated the micro-controller, no luck, re soldered the socket pins and still no luck.

I'll start checking voltages when I have more time.

Review all the solder joints with a magnifier and touch up as required.

If still no joy, I would order another micro-controller.

If yours was an early kit, replace L5.

Mine is No.1300
Not sure if it's an early one or not?

Think I may order a replacement micro-controller.

If its not that at least I will have newer firmware.
