QSX feature request: Can it talk?
HI Hans,
I did email this through, but thought I'd see what others thoughts are: How about making it talk, mainly for assistance to visually impaired operators. Just simple screen reader with manual PTT so to speak? I am working on a talking module for another kit radio for a white stick operator. 73 Nick VK4PP |

A
bit much isn't it, for something that's supposed to be a small affordable kit?

开云体育Nick, Even if it didn't make it into the native firmware. The preliminary QSX spec states it is? to be CAT controllable. So same solution as for touch screen control....
Is there anything stopping a stand-alone device interrogating the QSX for it's basic settings for speech or Morse Code playback? QSX specific commands maybe more difficult to acquire if the QSX CAT support is via another common radios emulation??
If such a device doesn't already exist, I'm in for 30% Do you guys have BBC world or your own version of "Dragons Den" ? ? :-)

开云体育No need for social media,The QSX "phones home" and Subliminal message "To buy more kits, press the red button to purchase 4/6Mtrs" etc? :-) Not surprising that something for visually impaired operators exists, the picatune amu (and possibly picastar?) did morse ident It's with Kees touch screen or I'll have to reply to the Nigerian High Commissioner to take up his "Get Rich Quick"offer...... I think you are onto something good. I suggest that you specify the functionality needed for this role. Perhaps you or a small team can collaborate with Hans on the implementation. Perhaps interfacing it to a pc for this role might be workable.? yes I remember qsos with sight impaired hams back when I was a teen. Be patient as Hans is busy with family time per what I had read. 73 Curt |
开云体育Hi Alison,You are quite correct, I omitted to name every radio that had this feature. ?I'll throw in another there was a sota / mountain top 'lite' design that announced frequency via a Morse talker. Very probably a SW or DB design?? Also I should mention Icom for sake of completeness, they did a voice talker card option for their mid 80's onwards radios.... The OP made valuable "can it talk" request. I pointed out that even if it didn't get to be included as a built in QSX feature (*1) there was a potential workaround, via interfacing via CAT If such a device did not already exist a potential product to be developed that would have great appeal to ANY radio CAT enabled radio (*2) (*1)? Historically firmware is closed source in QRP-Labs products (*2) UbiTX has a CAT interface by virtual of it group development philosophy. As the son of having both parents suffered from AMD (dry variant) in mid - later life, I have witnessed first hand the challenges it presents to everyday independent living. The best "hope" the professionals offer is, AMD does not make you go blind. That is true, however loosing all central vision but retaining at most 10% peripheral is "very inconvenient". There is no current treatment available* to delay / slow deterioration of the dry variation, which is possible in wet AMD. (It shares some attributes to other inherited or diabetic eye diseases and therefore attracts the most medical research) my inherited AMD 'risk factor' is something around 50 - 75% compared to a non modified base line of 3 - 12% depending on age / diet etc. Choose your parents carefully, don't smoke, eat your greens, exercise and most of all don't ever get old.... Thank you for your time. ? May the critique commence.... breathe/ Alan On 23/08/2018 03:41, ajparent1/KB1GMX

Alan,
No foul intended.? The KB1OIQ was based on arduino and I've pushed him to consider? as a possible mod to output cat controls as a front end box for cat enabled radios. His not doing this is a 24hour day issue not unwillingness. However...? The code is out there and free to use and it is open to anyone to make such a add on via cat interface and not be limited to a few or part of specific radios. Allison |
开云体育Hi Alison,No worries. Of absolutely no interest to anyone.... email was sent prior to a read through, wasn't supposed to have cryptic initials, more like things for me to check before launch. ? SW= Steven Weber, KD1JV DB= Dave Benson, K1SWL Must also include, David Cripe, NM0S All of whom have being instrumental in 'lite' SOTA friendly radios including the "Hilltopper" featuring frequency readout through code. Thereby the powers of "seven degrees of separation" Mr David Cripe, NM0S stalwart of Class E and the creator of the Hypermite AF filter, to name but two. Ably included in Mr Hans Summers G0UPL famous QCX series of radio's There by. bring this back moved on/ Alan On 23/08/2018 19:15, ajparent1/KB1GMX
