Firmware upgrade questions

If I upgrade the firmware, do I lose my current settings for I/Q, etc? ?Also, I thought I remember seeing instructions earlier for using an?AVR programmer, but I?don't see them now. ?Am I overlooking something?
Thanks
Howard

Changing the MCU will require you to re enter all your user preferences. VFO Freq, Message Memories, etc.
But RF / IQ calibration is done by a physical trimmer Cap & multiturn VR's

There are links on the firmware page to How To's:-

?

thanks for answering and correcting my recent answer on this - nice that calibration is 'stored' only in those pots.? sounds like a firmware transplant on the QCX is not so bad.? I just did a necessary one on my U3S and it took a little effort to restore.?

Thanks, Alan. ?That's helpful. I should have remembered - I was mixing this up with another rig that I work on. ?

I had seen the firmware update page, but I was thinking that earlier at least one other way to do the update was outlined there.

??? Hi Howard,
Beyond getting the ISP pin connections correct, (there are different size header "standards")
the actual update process is broadly the same for any other QRP Labs product, bar the ProgRock Kit.

It may have being the update pages for one of these you saw before?
(Likewise How To's for other ATmega328 AVR board or Arduino apply.)

What info are you seeking, using an Arduino as a AVR programmer?
I saw it somewhere, but cant find it now.
Maybe worth searching on I.O.groups or possibly the "Readers Wives or Builders Own" Pictures pages

Hi Folks
My QCX 20 seems to run nice and smothly. Would I improve something with the August update or can I skip that ?

Couldn't see the wood for the tree's.....

How to update the firmware on the QCX using an Arduino UNO and AVRDUDESS

Is what I always intended to bookmark, but never got around to, but not the one you remember?

Otherwise the gotchya's for the Cheap? USB ISP programmers are the correct USB drivers, driver signing, COM Ports and battling with windows updates that change your settings overnight (if applicable)
Not every Software App sees the fuse etc settings the same, but as you are upgrading than leave them as seen.
Some people prefer the headless command style programs others the GUI style.
If it's the first time programming AVR's down load a few different ones and see what best suits.

There are pages & pages on the forum.....
