Microphone output in SSB
Hello All,
?
QMX Mid band?
I am not getting but less than a .5 watts out with mic gain all the way up. this is going into a dummy load
input is on external mic, power is 9v for 9v build, mic is the one Hans has done the testing with brand new from Digikey.
CW works just fine 5 watts out on all bands
I ran the calibration in firmware 1_01_007 but have update to 1_02_000 to see if that would fix problem it did not.
Any suggestions as to where my problem could be.
?
thanks in advance

There is an option to test and set the mic level in the built-in test routine.?
Did you get the correct results, with mic gain </=55? ?/g/QRPLabs/wiki/38982#Microphone-gain
Per Hans, if you have to set the gain higher you will not get good results.

John,? How are you determining your power output when using SSB?What is your sound source for the power test?? Many/most non-peak power meters will not follow speech peaks well.? Try whistling, saying "ahhhhh", or playing an appropriate audio tone from your computer speakers (best) or whatever into the mic, to get a continuous, steady(ish) output.

Hi It is always best to use an audio signal generator internal or external, SSB is alwyas tricky with speech, 5 Watts is very much QRP, so you need a HF Watt meter that is 10 Watts full scale deflection. The Watt meter also needs to have a peak envelope power meter circuit. Most MFJ power meter use a simple capacitor to smooth out the the damping on the meter.
