#qmx SSB Firmware beta 1_01_008 release #qmx

Hi all

I updated the?SSB?beta?testing webpage of the brave, here:??and released?firmware?version?1_01_008 to it.?
  1. Improvement to synchronization section of the SSB calibration - as per this morning's email. On bands where the receiver is found to be overloaded during the sync optimization phase of the SSB calibration, it tests other BPFs to find one that attenuates a bit more to reduce the overload. This has a marked effect on some bands, and it should fix several instances where people reported that calibration wasn't successful on some bands.
  2. Bug fix: CAT LC; query now includes commas and dots, requested by Adam.
  3. Bug fix: Re-run of PA amplitude modulator test didn't clear the old graph.
  4. Added USB Gain to SSB configuration menu (gain for audio coming from the USB port) - specifically as requested?by Sergey for use with VAR which does not appear to put out sufficient volume.
  5. Now remembers previous menu location on ALL menus regardless of nesting level - Stan and others. Up until now when you went into the top level menu, you went back to the last place you were last time you exited the menu. Now this is extended to cover all levels of menu nesting.?
  6. Microphone VOX now works on raw external microphone audio, not including correction from onboard mic. (I expect the next thing will be a complaint from someone who actually was using the internal microphone, though it wasn't officially enabled, with VOX - but now they can't because their VOX will be ignored).
  7. Bug fix: If running Calibration and I open another terminal window, it will update in the new window.
  8. One more minor USB multi-port attempt (directed at Win7) - for Ludwig to try it again and report back...?

Page/link still says 007! I downloaded 008 by manually changing url.

Thanks - I had forgotten to hit Save after my webpage edits, I was intending to do so after sending?the email!

Windows 11 build 26100.3915 with fw008 still drops all 3 USB ports after a few minutes if 3 USB ports are enabled. Seems rock solid with 2 USB ports enabled.

Thank you Hans! Am I right that USB Gain can be regulated from 1 to 99? Or from 1 to 255? Because immediately after installing new firmware it was 255, but when I tried to change it it went only down, not back to 255. But Below 99 one can change it up and down.

Hello Sergey

The range is 00 to 99. If it was 255 that must have been something left in the EEPROM. On mine the first time, it came up as 00 (meaning no gain). So this is something to look out for.

I'm running this and it just ended the phase section and started the sync. When it started the 160m sync, it is plotting over the top of the 6m phase graph. Looks like 6m phase did not get erased.

Actually, none of the sync passes erase the previous one...

I tried with maximum Gain 99. Unfortunately nothing changed: no TX if QMX is chosen as Device Output in VARA settings. I made a video to show how it looks like. Here is the link: https://disk.yandex.ru/d/L6JkkY78JDUfWA
There is my voice influence to oscilloscope picture as well. Because I spoke during test and microphone was connected. If not to speak there are just this strange 2 Volt peak to peak signals sometimes and nothing more...
?

Hello Sergey

I don't understand why your voice would affect it. Did you select audio source as USB? Your voice could only be transmitted if you selected Ext. Mic and this wound be why the USB wasn't transmitted.?

YES! Thank you! I was so stupid not to switch to USB source instead of microphone )) In DiGi mode where all such things as JS8 Call etc work it is done automatically? Right?
Now everything is transmitted with 100% power even with USB Gain put to 10 or 15!

Hello Hans, I will do so. Thankyou for trying to fix it so persistent.
But sorry, it doesn't work. But there is a difference to both ver. 003 and ver. 006.
?
Here is the description for 003 and 006.
?
But I will repeat it here together with the data for FW 008.
Some information about the test is here.
?
I started QMX and PuTTY and the collected data are starting the moment when hitting ENTER.
Each line is one packet (transmission).
?
FW 003
PC->QMX ?BULK out "0d"?? --> CR
QMX->PC ?BULK in "1b 5b 32 4a"??? --> ESC? [? 2? J? ==> clear screen
PC->QMX ?BULK in (Response in)
QMX->PC ?BULK out (Request in)
QMX->PC ?BULK in "1b 5b 48 1b 5b 3f 32 35 6c"??? --> ESC [? H? ESC? [? ?? 2? 5? l? ==> cursor to 0;0 (?)? cursor off
PC->QMX ?BULK in (Response in)
QMX->PC ?BULK in (1b 5b 33 33 6d 1b 5b 32 34 3b ...) (the menu text)
?
FW 006
PC->QMX ?BULK out "0d"?? --> CR
QMX->PC ?BULK out (Request in)
QMX->PC ?BULK in "1b 5b 32 4a"??? --> ESC? [? 2? J? ==> clear screen
? ?nothing more
When hitting a character in PuTTY it's send from the PC -> QMX and the transmission is confirmed by the QMX. So the canal is not dead.
?
FW 008
PC->QMX ?BULK out "0d"?? --> CR
QMX->PC ?BULK out (Request in)
? ?nothing more
When hitting a character in PuTTY it's send from the PC -> QMX and the transmission is confirmed by the QMX. So the canal is not dead.
?
Starting from line 2 (packet 2) something is different. I think you was working at this place for FW 008, maybe in the opposite direction.

Now everything is transmitted with 100% power even with USB Gain put to 10 or 15!

In DiGi mode, the QMX transmits FSK (FSK-only modes can be used with DiGi), and it does this by a different method. The modulation occurs by measurement of the audio frequency and adding this to the USB Dial frequency then transmitting it as a carrier. There is no capability to transmit at different power levels (or volume from the PC). The PC should always be set to full volume.?

In USB or LSB modes, the QMX will transmit whatever it receives from the PC over the USB port, when USB is selected?as the input source. So the volume of the audio will affect the power output. The "USB Gain" control in 1_01_008 only affects USB/LSB transmission of audio from the USB port.?

Note that I found an issue, the USB Gain setting works fine if you have just edited it in the configuration menu but it is not loaded on power-up. So I have to fix this (firmware 1_01_009 will fix that).?
