QMX+ Front Panel Soldering - Alternate Method

My QMX+ hasn¡¯t arrived yet so I can¡¯t check this out myself. Step 2.23 of the assembly manual shows installing the font panel plate at the beginning. This results in a narrow gap for soldering the 16 pins at step 10.

?

So my question is: can using the four front panel screws, spacers, nuts etc but without the panel itself, provide sufficient alignment for the two boards (and eventually to the front panel) to allow soldering the 16 pins of step 10 ¡°in the clear¡±.? It seems like it would save hassle and result in better solder joints - but I'm only guessing.

That's exactly what I did, then removed the screws and reconnected it to the front panel. Seemed way easier. You have to kind of slide the nylon nuts in between the boards, but it worked just fine.

I¡¯ve built two QMX+ and used this method to solder the display.
It adds probably 15 minutes to the build time, with the pre-assembly and disassembly, but so much easier to solder!

My approach was to use the method described in Hans' instructions for the 2 corner pins. That was enough to establish position. Then, I loosened the screws just enough to allow the assembly to tilt back about 1/4 inch. That gave enough room to make the rest easier ... and without letting the spacers escape.

I used this method as well, assemble the display, connecting pins and front panel using the top two screws with nut spacers. Solder just the front pins to the display.? Then disassemble and follow the instructions, except that the front pins with the poor access are done.

I followed the instructions explicitly since it was my first build. And I felt like this was indeed one of the tough points to accomplish.
Being new to soldering added to my anxiety of course.
I kinda felt like I was building a ship in a bottle.
But thankfully, even without the ¡®tricks¡¯ of the experience builders above.. I was still able to prevail.. and without issue.

My new QMX+ is ¡®on the air¡¯!!!
Happy Easter everyone!
